We started out in town. took the route where every block is a stop sign. Went to the lake park and tootled around the park. 25mph curvy road no traffic. Went out the back side of the lake. took Country roads about 20 miles just winding through the trees and stuff, about 45 MPH. I stopped at a "T" in the road. I asked son,"You wanna go "x" way or "y ,long" way.

He said Long way. 70 Miles later we returned home. Grin on his face, tears in my eyes. Way Cool. No Incidents of disaster We are goin again tomorrow. More technical curvy roads. over and over maybe. But staying close to home for a while.

Timalan,

Very very cool to be part of that with your Son. I am torn.. My Son is a little younger than yours and I worry about him riding on the streets in general. I would like to convince him to stay on the dirt... You know... Thinking back to all the stupid tricks, stunts and near death M/C experiences I had when I was younger.. BUT... To teach your own Son first hand valuable lessons learned, safety, knowledge, responsible and proper riding techniques must be awful rewarding. Think... I just answered my own worries regarding..

Thanks for bring it up!

Guess I needed a little couch time!

I just helped my son pick up a SV650S He has been after me to ride. I just haven't had the time (made the time). Thanks for the reminder to make the time. I remember taking my son to the Smokies on the back of my Connie. He loved it. He wants to ride down their now but we have to work on the basics first.

Thats great Tim! I get to do the same thing in a few weeks myself. Can't wait :)

And Trigger, enjoy it while ya can and spend all the time you can with him too. It goes by to damn fast.

Polly the only regret I have thusfar? Being on the road all those years while my kids grew up, one day I came home and realized they weren't little ones anymore. :cray:

Ahh shoot! Now I'm gonna catch hell for being sentimental.

+1 on both counts of what the sappy joker said.

I sure can relate to your pride & apprehension riding with your son. No one I'd rather ride with than my son. He's evolved into an excellent rider, quick yet safe. Went thru a wild stage which worried me no end as he favors sportbikes. Now rides an R1 which he loves to ride with me especially when I saddle up my FZ1. We share countless hours of bench racing, road race spectating & it has really kept us close. Sure hope your son knows to follow your example. Ride safely, both of you.

Now im jealous..

I got screwed big time.

I had a doughter instead of a son.

Anyone know how much gender swapping surgery is??

I know yer just joshin...right?

but I know some wimenz on this Forum who is better at zee riding than I am. If you're a good dad...maybe you'll be lucky and she'll want you to go riding with her.

I doubt she'll feel that way if you try to change any part of her from whom she is.   ;)

My 15 1/2 Year old girl has been wanting to ride Badly. I just haven't done it yet. My 20 Y/O wants to but , says nobody makes a bike she can ride. she is 5 ft tall and mostly not long legged. Any suggestions for a really short bike?

Way cool. I take it parking lot sessions went nicely as well.

For your oldest, if she is ok with the cruiser suggest V-Star 650. I also think that Ninja 250 is a great starting bike.

I am starting to worry what am I going to do in 10 years when my oldest ask for the bike :)

ya I was just kidding about the swap... she is 27 and married and her husband it thinking about getting a bike this summer.. Its way too late to go riding with her but when she was little I got a small helmet for her with all the padding that could be put in it to make it fit..

Then I had to make straps to hold the helmet up and attached to me for support because her neck wasnt strong enough yet to hold up a helmet comfortably... then she would ride in front of me on the bike... Yes I know this was not the safest thing to do but I was young too and didnt know much better at the time... We lived in a small town in N.D. so it was easy to find times of the day without much traffic..

If I had to do it all over again I would have waited untill she was older but she did like to ride.. Its just that 18 months old is too young to be safe no matter what.. I think I still have some pictures somewhere but I havnt seen them in ages.

Parking lot quickly got Old.... for me I think. So the lake park. Was more like real roads with stops and curvy low speed roads. Very little traffic. Lots of little turnouts to stop and say..."why the hell did you do that", or I mean, "your doing great, don't forget to look into the turns and not at the ground." Or "why do you keep honkin the horn?".... He was turning off turn signals and kept hitting the horn button at the same time. It was all fun. He worked till Past midnight last night ... this morning he said he was tooo tired. So I took the SV riding. And worked on the Sons CB350.
