Last weekend I met my Gold Wing riding cousin & rode along with the GW club to his home.

I normally avoid riding with large groups but found myself at the rear of this large group of 12 GoldWings plus a couple of gals on GoldWing trikes.

A large SUV attempted to pass them all over a double yellow & had to cut into the group when a car came over the hill on this two lane blacktop.

The gals in front of me panicked, jammed their brakes on & skidded their trikes.

I grabbed a fistful of front brakes & stopped as if I hit a brick wall. My petite wife felt like she weighed a ton as she was pushed against my back.

My cousin was behind me & told me the FJR's rear wheel came off the ground. I would never have believed that could happen with a passenger.

Thanks to the EBC HH brake pads, the SS brakelines, the new Pilot Roads & especially the FJR's ABS, my brakes are the best.

Has anyone else experienced a "stoppie"?

PS: That club has decided they no longer will ride in groups more than five and will maintain spaces between groups for passing cars to cut in safely!

No I haven't, I don't feel left out, either.

I guess in a way, its not surprising, given the breaking capabilities of the FJR.

Also, congratulations on avaoiding a much nastier incident.

And...........

That SUV driver deserves a MAJOR :******: , passing on a double line going towards a hill.

Last year, near Toronto, Ont., an idiot in a van did that to a group of riders, only the outcome was not as good.

Does the ABS have any type of sensing equipment that will detect the rear wheel leaving the pavement and thus adjust the front braking accordingly? If not, then I guess it would be possible for the ABS to "work" on the front wheel while the rear is airborn. Hell, I don't know. I've been absent a while and I wanted to post.

I guess alot would depend on how abrupt the initial enertia was and the setting of the front suspension and how much initial dive, etc. You know, crap like that.

Um, I thought a stoppie wasn't possible with ABS... ?

As long as you don't hit a bad traction area to make the ABS kick in an ABS bike should be able to loop over!

If you have enough traction and a light enough weight.

Yeah, but he was 2 up on an FJR and hitting the binders hard from his description... not like it was Metzger on a dirt bike...

Full E-Stop, warm tires, good traction, major weight shift forward.... easy.
