Met a guy and his wife out riding a FJ1200. Actually the first one I ever saw in person. I sat on it too, and the ergos were real nice.

Would like to ride it someday, he told me it had quite a bit of work done to it. Told me it ran like a scalded ape. Said he can't wheelie the damn thing, cause the tire just breaks loose!

He got it off ebay with 16,000 miles for $1600 cause it has light scratches from a low speed laydown.

Damn, I think I want one!

:yahoo: woooo, if you see them again could you ask were he purchased the trunk rack? I have a 92 fj 1200 and let's just say the availability is slim. the seat is nice to, beats the factory one i have.

Ask the FJ1100/1200 group on yahoo. World of info on that list...

There's quite a few FJ'ers on this list too....

I had a 92 FJ1200 for 10 years and loved it. In fact I was riding with it yesterday as I sold it to a buddy who now loves it too.

It now has 158,000 km (almost 100,00 miles) and still runs great and is reliable as a stone.

Down side is that it is a bit of a heavy handler and is more thristy than the FJR. Geared lower so it feels almost as fast though. I think that seat is a Corbin Gunfighter. I had one and it's definitely much better than stock.

The old FJ was a great long distance bike too.

I loved my '85 1100. The handling wasn't all that it could have been since I left it dead stock. Knowing what I know now, I definately should have thrown some some money at the suspension. With all that said, I believe I'd probably be disappointed if I purchased one now. It's old technology. I suspect I'd enjoy a Honda XX or Sprint ST more.

keith,

do you remember his name? there's a guy on the yahoo fj list who goes by d.j., who's in louisville.

i am in la grange about twice per year. maybe i'll ride the fj down and give you a heads up. neither of mine are in anything close to great condition, a missing fastener here, broken plastic tab there, but it's still the preferred ride for sport rides, whereas the fjr is my commuter. if you're ever up in cinti with your bike, let me know.

he's right, it's very hard to wheelie an fj, due to the long wheelbase. it's not hard to do burnouts on it, tho. or smoke sportbikes, due to aforementioned long wheelbase _preventing_ wheelies as well as its great low end torque.

oh, btw, you realize that fj in the pic is missing the chin fairing?

he's switched out mirrors, i think those are cbr1000 mirrors; and r6 brakes? two very common mods to do the fj. many fj'ers have also switched out to an fjr clutch lever/master/reservoir.
