FJR Auxillary Fuel Cells...

Hi All,

I've already posted an introduction to the 'newbie' forum, so now "onward with the education!".

I ordered my 2006 FJR1300A last week <BFG> and am starting to figure out what farkles I want to add.

I did a search on fuel cells, but did not find what I was looking for. I am aware of Dean Tanji's (very nice) fuel cell.... but, what are the other cells that have been used by FJR owners to increase fuel capacity?

My Top Gun fuel cell is arriving this week. See FJR Goodies or BLM Accesories for information.

Top quality stuff for sure...and a price to go with it. But Bill's fanatical about manufacturing his products the right way. A bracket was broken on a BMW at the Iron Butt Rally. A workaround strap or clamp could have been used, but he hired a welder from the Denver area to come out and weld it in the parking lot. After the rally he either sent a new, fresh bracket or asked for the old one back to repowder coat it.

Dean Tanji, FJRGoodies, and Samspon Sport Touring are the three primarly fuel cell players that I am aware of. All three have their issues, advantages, and disadvantages.

But here is the big thing - NONE of these current fuel cells will work on the 06 FJR.

For the 06 FJR, not only did they totallychange the way the seats mount, but also they changed the entire rear subframe. I know the Tanji cell will not work on the 06 FJR, and while I have not seen the mounting method for the Top Gun or Sampson cells, I am betting they will not work either.

So don't buy one yet. Wait until the 06 is out and one of the above modifies their design to fit the 06.

Very fair point. All will likely need mounting point adjustments. I haven't looked at the Tanji cell, but aren't the mounting points part of the cell themselves?

The Top Gun unit is basically a box with flanges that then attach to brackets. Likely only the brackets on that unit will need to be changed.

I appreciate the feedback, and agree that right now it would be best to wait until the 2006 bike are 'out'.

I am going to try to attend the International Motorcycle Show in Denver next weekend, so hopefully I will be able to check out the '06 model.

Nice job on your tanks!

I'm probably going to remove the pillion seat and mount the fuel cell there.

I used a Peterson Fluids fuel valve (wholesale ~$100), but like the Pingle valve idea too (I have a Pingle cleanable inline filter on mine).
