I'm currently working in Montana and I was talking to a guy at work last night and he mentioned that the FJR engine is becoming a"hot" engine for hillclimbs.I thought that was pretty interesting-anybody know anything about it?BTW,I quess there's going to be a major hillclimb in Billings Mt last week of July.I might have to go check out an FJR(engine) in a hillclimber.

Sounds like a lot of work to convert a shaft drive to hill climb!

I think he has it confused with something else, but I could be wrong.

I went to a hillclimb in Mesquite NV, last month. I saw a few R1 powered bikes and lots powered by older air/oil cooled Suzuki fours. I also saw quite a few powered by Suzuki TL1000 twins.

Deffinately didn't see anything with a shaft. That would take some serious know-how to get a shaft extended that far. The riders have their swingarms set up to where they can change the wheelbase according to track conditions. Couldn't do that without a chain.

The strange thing was that the unlimited bikes that ran these sportbike engines didn't get any better times than the 500cc two strokes, KX500, CR500, etc.

The unlimiteds sure are a lot more fun to watch though. All wheel spin and noise. Think drag bike with a knobby.

I'll be going to the Widow Maker in Salt Lake in June for sure.

Actually, it's relatively easy to convert to chain drive since the transmission output shaft drives a bevel gear to make the 90 degree turn to the shaft. Used to race against a Virago that had been converted.

Not a big deal when you're basically building the whole bike anyway.

Much easier than goin' the other way...

DELETED -- posted in wrong tab when I had several open. Seems a dunce cap emoticon would be appropriate here.

Funny though how many people, including the sales manager where I bought my fjr, who think the fjr is a R1 motor

It is an R1 inspired motor but that is it
