I joined in March and have been thinking about a fjr or concour 14 for a while, except in May i traded my Yamaha Raider in for a Triumph rocket 3 (one of 3 bikes i really wanted). Loved my raider but i guess not that much since i traded it. Anyway i had a rocket with corbin bags and fairing and was loving it, then engine is that bike, suspension not that good. Rocket is gone as of one month ago i hit a deer going 65mph to work one am. Slid down the highway it was the most painfull wreck i've ever been in. All is good though was fully geared up with leather gauntlet gloves, boots, armored jacket and pants. Came out quite well actually a broken finger, a few pains i have never had before but really no problems. Since the wreck (the rocket was totaled) have been thinking about a bike and just think a fjr is for me. The decision will be 2013 and have payments or get an older fjr and possibly not any payments. I don't want any suprises like on my rocket, got it home and was going through it and it had been modified and wires messed with(new air filters, wiring changed. I just stumbled into the used rocket and had to have it now its gone i think i will try something a little lighter and different.

Dude, avoid Howie like a diseased hooker with bad breath. FJRs well, you can pick almost any year you want. It depends on your budget and how pristine you want stuff.

I love my '07, but if I totalled it tomorrow I'd go give someone a down payment on a brand new '13.

Remember:

FJR=good.

Howie=BAD

Raiderbill,

THIS guy ^^^^^ just gave you advice. Just remember that...

It's been the best bike I've ever had, by far...and don't believe what the GenI haters say about the GenII. One of these days they'll come out of denial and feel much better. Anyway, your from Anaconda,Montana? Man, that must give you some good one liners.

Baloney what Howie is saying, out of the experience, stay away from the 13 for now until it has settled. Also the more bells and whistles are on something mechanical, the more can break.

Yet the likelihood, that the 13 FJR will be a lemon at birth, is slim, this bike is solid like a rock ( if all recalls been taken care of :lol: ), I did choose the used bike and no payments route and don't regret it.

You will bump into a few FJR pilots here which are members of the 100k, if not 200k mile club, I think that says it all. From what I could gather, my 07 with 16k miles on the clock is hardly broken in......

Good luck man!

I ride a Gen 1, it's an 05 w/ABS that I picked up 2 years ago w/3800 miles on it for 6500. It's run flawlessly now for nearly 20 k miles and has served me well. There's a lot of spirited discussion on this forum about the virtues of Gen 1's vs. Gen 2's; and we'll probably be arguing over Gen 3's soon enough. Most of our bantering is in jest. But the truth is, you can't go wrong with any of these FJR's. You'll find some pretty good deals on the forum if you're patient. I bought mine on Craigslist. It's been a great bike. You're gonna love it. Queston is, what do ya wanna pay? I've got no payments and nobody telling me how much insurance I have to carry because there's a lean on the bike. If you buy used, run the price, miles, year and farkles by us before making your final decision and we'll give ya some feedback about the price.

Garyahouse, Thats what i've been looking at also is fjrs for 6k-8k out there that have barely been broken in, even if i have it shipped could still be a deal.

Raider,

I put 75K on my '03 FJR, then sold it to my sister and brother-in-law last spring. Nine years of problem-free riding. Thought awhile about what to replace it with. Came right back to an FJR, this time an '05 ABS with 21K (just broken in) with Givi trunk and other goodies for $6K. Found it in Helena. Put 9,500 on it this season. If you want to talk about FJRs, or even take one for a ride, let me know. After all, we only live 25 miles apart, so you know that people from Butte are the "butt" of jokes (pun intended) far more than our Andaconda cousins.

Big Sky

Bigsky, thanks for the offer but i don't really like to ride other peoples bikes, very nice of you to offer. I don't think the fjr will dissapoint.Might have to get together and ride together though this next riding season, i'm definately going to riding an fjr. I wouldn't think there are to many sport tourers in this area, tons of harleys, a metric cruiser here and there, and an occasional adventure bike (enduro). Thats what i've seen on the roads around here anyway, oh and a few sport bikes. The guy that wrote the traveling montana book on a bike rides a connie and lives in Butte i believe.
