Don't really know if this is the right forum but here goes. I'm wondering about the real horsepower numbers on the FJR. Yamaha's website posts the horsepower at 145 in the features section but I've seen other ad's in mags that post it at 125, not by Yamaha. One mag, Motorcyclist, has a "hard numbers section on the last page of their's that post the FJR's hp @ 126.8 @ 8000 rpm's. The tests were done by the staff on a Superflow CycleDyn rear wheel dynamometer, intercomp SWII digital scale and Los Angeles County's Raceway quarter-mile strip utilizing a Chrondek timing system. They measured torque @ 90.0 ft. lbs. @ 7000 rpm's. Corrected quarter mile @ 11.02 sec's @ 124.1 mph. Top gear roll-ons of 60 to 80 mph @ 3.65 sec's. Wet weight @ 514 lbs." Does anyone know the real horsepower figures of this fine mochine? Just curious. What else can I do while I wait? Painman.

Those numbers are correct. All of them.

Yamaha says that FJR's horsepower is 145 at the crank. Which works out to 125-129 hp at the rear wheel as measured by many sources. This all makes sense. All bikes have power loss going from the output of the engine to the rear wheel, shaft driven bikes have even more loss than chain or belt (Those 90 degree turns are not good for transferring power).

So all is well...........

Buy riding apparel, farkles, group buys, read this forum, a good book etc... Catch up on your honey-do list so you can ride the thing when it shows up, unlike Brun Dog. :D

Hey! I heard that!

You guys should really let it go. It's just not that interesting. It's certainly not by choice. Give a brother some love, man!

BrunDog don't need no brake....his problem is he's already stopped.

He needs an accelerator....to get that damn thing going somewhere...ANYwhere.

It ain't what he did...it's what he didn't do. As in ride his bike more than an average of about 41000 FEET a day since he got it!!

:p :D  :haha:

I'm pretty sure that wet weight figure is light. Helium in the tires ? I've seen the same figures in one months edition, then something more real in another months.

Didn't even notice that.....

That's no wet weight - that's the dry weight.

Wet weight for the FJR is around 625-630 lbs.

Am I the only one curious about the name 'Painman'? Are you a dentist or does the name refer to some hobby you persue? Do I even want to know? :)

Hey Gypsy, got the name "painman" from having the arthritis of the spine I have. Am a chronic pain patient, thats what my wife thinks too, but doc's say I shouldn't even be on a bike, but if it was up to them, I wouldn't be doing anything. The good Lord allows me to ride, so I do it for Him. I'm a member of the Mounted Messengers, CMA Chp. 745 in Antioch, Ca. We are very active, and I hope by purchasing the FJR some riders will join us other than the cruiser types that now make up our majority. Not to mention its time for me to make a major change in bikes as I've been riding the same old HD for almost 18 years. Thanks for asking. Painman.

Another threat hijacked. You guys are trying to get back to Cuba. Right?

Each bike will be a little different than the next due to tollerances during assembly. OEMs advertise crank HP because the numbers will be higher before any loss through the drive train to the rear tire. Places like Motorcycle Consumer News will test rear wheel HP and report it... for that bike... on that day... with that dyno operator... for that temperature, relative humidity, and elevation...

I think BrunDog is somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean after Wilma got done with him, I just hope his beautifull bike is OK. :p

rogerfjrfaster :D

160hp yes...but they weigh in at just over 725 pounds 'cause of that fat-woman-blue paint job. :aaevil:
...I think that 725 lb. figure for the Slow blue ones is correct but the 160 hp must be a typo...isn't it actually 106 hp?

And how can I determine my bike's wet weight?...I never wash my FJR ''cause I am still riding it.'

You have no idea what kind of torcher you're in for. When I ride with HD's I take my 1975 R90/6 and still get board.

RodantKing, believe you me I have realized a long time ago when first thoughts of FJRing it came to me the woes of group cruizer riding could cause. There will be times when I will be biting my lip by not traveling at sport speed. But, I'm hoping more sport riders will join so we can start our own riding group. The cruizers will just have to try and meet us there later or step up and buy a FJR. lol. :p
