Me being a soon to be first time FJR owner and now that the 06's seem to be popping up like mushrooms, does anyone know the U.S. sales numbers from year to year? I checked on Micapeak.com but couldn't find any numbers..

Somewhere in this forum someone reported that based on the PDP #'s he estimated that there were just under 2,500 2006s ordered. Not sure exactly where I saw those numbers discussed :eh:

I'm getting in my way-back machine for this so don't crucify me if I have it wrong... I don't think the PDP #'s relate in sequence. They are just an order number and may be common to any Yamaha product. More important would be the serial number. More specifically the last 4 - 5 digits. These are sequential numbers for the market in which the bike is sold. So, look for all the North America bikes to be in the same run of numbers (I think this will include Canadian bikes, too.)

So, watch Micapeaks's list and see who has the highest registration. Keep in mind that only a minor number of owners will post there so you'll have to do some estimating on the actual number of bikes ordered. 2,500 seems way low, IMO.

It has been reported that the '03's came in around 2,500; '04's at 3,500 and a similar amount for '05 which I highly doubt. The last time I checked the list for '05's first run of PDP bikes, the highest number I saw was 3,680 or so. That was just the people who cared to post, so there could be more that are higher. Then there was the 2nd PDP which only added to the total. I'm guessing the '05 run was 5 - 5,500 bikes. Again, just a guess.

I was told by a dealer that there were:

2003 -- 1800

2004 -- 2400

2005 -- 2600+2500

2006 -- 5,000*

Actual numbers may vary depending on the dealer's memory, my memory, how many drinks we had that day, and the moon's orbit.

* The 2006 number actually came from a salesman so it is really "soft".

I was told the reason for extending the '06 PDP by a month was failure to reach 3500 bikes for the US - this was from a Yamaha rep at a motorcycle show. I place 50% confidence that the statement was factual.

For what it's worth, my PDP # in the last third of November was ~2200. As someone else pointed out, it's possible the numbers include other models as well.

a dealer bike showed up yesterday in OKC that is #....0160.

It has Bridgestone tires and sure was purdy, especially in the sunlight!

I was suprised how little they knew about the bikes. The knowledge on this forum is light years ahead! They saw my interest and I could see the dollars signs ringing-up in their heads. Glad I already have one on the way for the price I like.

Hmarc who runs the Micapeak site has estimated 2500 total 2006 units sold in the USA, He's usually right on the money. The folk who use the registry post up their order number issued by Yammie when they put up their PDP deposit. From the earliest order number to the latest one posted up and it calculates about 2500 bikes.

Canada's estimated at 300 units.

My '05 built 03/05 is number 2290 for the N.A. 2005  FJR's for whatever that is worth.
