I'm curious if there are any differences in the shape of FJR saddlebag lids from year to year. Are they all the same since the very first ones, or have there been changes?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yamaha uses that same flat lid on the FJ-09. But I assumed (insert joke here) that we were discussing U.S. model FJRs only.

Surely you do not expect me to admit I could have been wrong?

There are differences in the trim piece on the outside, and I think some lids may have holes for fixing said trim piece. Unless I'm thinking back to my Trophy.

Gen I and early Gen II had black rubberish type protection strips. Then they were replaced with silver plastic type with quick release adhesive that let them all fall off unexpectedly. It appears that Yamaha has started using glue in their adhesive now

Based on the feel, Yamaha may have done something with the bag ratchet latch mechanism. And, across all Gens the locks still have the silly security Torx screws that need Loctite.

As previously confirmed, the shape of the OEM bag remains unchanged.

Alan, FYI, Yamaha couldn't figure out what glue was, so they put three screws on the trim piece (as viewed from the inside of the lid). I haven't taken mine off yet, but I'm itching to do something about that chrome...... the ratchet latch system has had some changes, much harder to get the bags on and off, i.e., they removed all sloppiness in how they are on the bike, and a wee bit of foam above where the tongue seats... a touch too tight methinks, but maybe it will loosen up a bit with use.
