Just got back from a thousand miler round-trip to my duck blind in the north Sacramento Valley. Took the FJR this time since it was unseasonably balmy.

The FJR will hold at least 2 Geese and 4 Ducks with room to spare on each side!

Here's proof!

Just for the record....that is the polar opposite of NEPRT. It's anti-NEPRT!

Not only has that NEVER been posted about on the forum.....I never in wildest dreams imagined it would be posted.

Good job! :clapping:

TreeDoc,

Great shots and Thanks for the Heads up on the game haul. You must have left out the pictures of your limit on the Deer you bagged.

Sorry Sam! I was on a mission and slabbed it up on Friday the fastest way...101, 680, 80, 505, 5 to Willows. Slabbed back today on the reverse route. I did get a little bit of extracurricular riding over to Chico and locally near Willows on Sunday afternoon but nothing fun. I definitely want to make a run soon to your neck of the woods and I won't forget you!

I've had duck, but never goose. Is it good eatin'?
Those ducks in the photo are some of the BEST eaters you can get aside from the traditional Mallard. The 3 bigger ones are Northern Pintail and the little bitty guy on top is a Greenwing Teal. They are all fantastic eaters. The brown Goose on the low left is a small, juvenile Whitefront or "Specklebelly" goose and the white one is a juvenile Snow Goose, that's why it has the gray tinting compared to the normally stark powder white feathers the mature adult Snow will have. Snows are so-so for eating depending on how they are prepared. This guy is going in the Jerky pile.

The Specklebelly is one of the best eating waterfowl ever. Grilled to a medium rare, this filet nearly equals the quality of a choice Rib Eye without any of the fat. All ducks are very lean and where I hunt, they're all fed with rice from the tens of thousands of acres of rice fields that are in their decomp stage right now.

Anyone that's travelling through Nor Cal in the next month or 2 should REALLY get a close look at the network of Wildlife Refuges in the Sacramento Refuge Complex and the surrounding farms. You haven't experienced nature to it's fullest until you find yourself under or adjacent to a "Grind" of Snow and Specklebelly geese numbering in the thousands and tens of thousands. It's an incredible sight and sound that you will never forget. It's even better if you're a hunter! :p

Here's a quick and shaky video my guide friend took for his website. This is my blind east of Willows, CA and these are almost all Specklebellies which are about twice the size of the one in my pic today.

Where do you mount your shotgun on the FJR?
If I were going to take my shotgun on the FJR, I would take the barrel off (since it so easy to do) so that it wouldn't hang off the sides so far.

And then strap it down to the back seat (cased and unloaded as dictated by state law) like I've done with seen someone else do with rifles.

The rifles extended past the bags a significant distance, though.

Transporting a revolver is much easier. It fits in the side bags, even in the big case. Or so I've heard.

Actually, it was pretty funny when I was at the range one day, and someone in a truck showed up, I'm shooting and the only vehicle at the place is my bike. The guy looked at me kind of funny, but didn't say anything.

I just sling it over my shoulder "Rambo" style. It draws interesting looks and gestures from the East SF Bay Area drivers as I blow through on their freeways! :lol2:

Actually, I don't transport it. It's locked in my travel trailer up at our compound. :)

As a card carrying member of PETA (Purposely Eats Tasty Animals), I say BRAVO! ;)
Like I say....

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but those little ducks don't look so good. I hate to break it to you but I think they're dead................
