Well I finally got a round 2-it. Here's my NoCal ride report.
First off I want to thank Old Michael for hosting and helping set up this great SoCal meets NoCal luncheon. I was going to be at Poor Red's any who, and wanted to meet the gang and he made it happen. The NoCal folks are just like any others I've met on the forum, a great bunch of people, it was a pleasure to meet all of you, and thanks for the warm welcome and NoCal hospitality.
This is my annual NoCal trip with my friend Warren, and as always, we had a blast! Used Reno as a hub and toured around then headed up 89 and 70 to Lake Almanor (LA), and used that as a hub for a few days.
The roads were awesome! You can not beat the roads and scenery in NoCal, period! Those going to WFO will find that out straight away.
Day 1:
Reno to Kingsbury Grade to Hwy 50 to Lake Tahoe, Sly Park Road, Pleasant Valley Road, to Poor Red's, then Hwy 49, Hwy 88, and back to Reno.
Day2:
Mount Rose Hwy to Tahoe, Hwy 89, to A25, to Portola (visited the train museum), Hwy 70, to LA. My bike crapped out in a campground on 89, then really died in Sierraville, got 'er goin' though. Read about it here. Warren's bike also had electrical issue and we had to push start it after getting gas in Portola. Each night the battery went on the charger. Each ride we ended up pushing starting his beast at some point.
Day 3:
Hwy 36 to Hwy 32, Chico for Lunch Madison Bear Gardens, a Chico State party dive burger and beer joint. Hwy 70 (Feather River route) back to LA. More push starting.
Day 4:
Helped Warren's mother around the Lake.
Day 5:
Hwy 89, to Greenville, back way to Lake Davis, via Taylorsville road. We didn't want to do about 20+ miles of dirt road, we turned around and went thru Quincy. We were stopped twice within three miles by California's finest in Quincy. I won't go into detail except to say we were advised of the speed limits and were being watched going thru the state to Nevada. Got a little drizzle on us, but nice and cool to Reno. Warren's bike died in my folks driveway.
It was all truly an absolutely uber awesome time! See for yourself.
Bridgeport, CA, nice and green all over.
Minden, Nevada farm land as we climb out on the Kingsbury Grade towards Tahoe.
This guy above Lake Tahoe (in the background) is hot!... So his wife says.
Caples Lake, snow still all the way to the shore line.
Little Bear River reservoir area.
Hwy 50 & 89 in Tahoe, awesome!
Our munch stop in El Dorado, CA, Poor Red's BBQ.
I rolled up to Poor Red's and found these two clowns trying to pick up on Tyler… Not sure if they just wanted to ride her new scoot.
FJR motley crew. Front to back, left to right. Tyler, fjronamssion, Sacramento mike, Walt, Lemar, Warren, puppychow, RockinFJR, old Michael.
Madmike2 was so bad he had to sit at another table, or he refused to sit at the same table where OM was seated. Also, Tyler, HCYCLE's better half Terri and FJRONAMSSION.
Uberkul and his daughter Erin road the dirt bikes to Poor Red's.
Hans and his buddy tried to blend in with the wood work, almost worked except Han's UCSB shirt gave him away. BTW - Han's buddy had an excellent Ducati shirt on, he's OK in my book.
Beautiful Lake Almanor. 75 Sq. miles of lake and no one on it. I like it that way.
The little LA cabin we stayed in. Warren's mom's place was full so we stayed next door at this quaint little place.
This is what happens when guys are unsupervised.
From Warren's mother's deck vantage point of LA.
