Also, sounds like there's a group photo bonus at 3 pm Central around 90 minutes north of Tulsa.
So a 3.5 hour delta between the group photo and CP. Hmm, that makes some of the outliers playing different point games. Nice detail.

They've done that a couple of times since the advent of the group photo bonuses, and it seemed to incentivize much of the bottom half of the field to get into the CP early and it gets a lot of people through scoring before it gets too late.
 
Lisa Rufo/Molly Hecker are out of the rally and will be heading home. Bike is totaled, front end is largely gone. Both are in good spirits, all things considered, and relatively unharmed in spite of Bambi's attempted murder. Lisa posted a few pics of the bike to Facebook. Attributes her minimal damage to the airbag vest she was wearing. Said her riding gear is trashed.
 
A 9am PDT Spotwalla check suggests those Lobster players from Maine need to move right along.

Doing a little calculator estimate on the trailing Indiana rider suggests to get to the CP before penalty is an super-extra-exuberant BBG pace versus a what was a moderate BBG pace last night when they were in New York. For that all important average speed needed to go UP about 10 mph is a tough trend. As always, I wonder if it's a newbie that bit off more than they can chew, a mid-packer that ran into trouble, or a savant vet that's messing with us armchair spectators.

400 miles, St. Louis to Tulsa checkpoint. It's 2:00 PM. Might be a hairy, nail-biting last few miles for those who are still in St. Louis area. Of course, we don't know what the exact lag time is on Spotwalla. And add to this, that riders might want to top off their tanks before getting into the Tulsa area, given the power situation there.

It seems like our rally scribe affirms some of our mutual concerns:
As this report is being written, there are a few riders who appear to be far enough out to place their arrival time at the first checkpoint well into the penalty points. It will be interesting to see how their rides and bonus claims work out if they can get to the checkpoint before being time barred.

And at the same time as we're watching stragglers flirt with immortality and potential call-outs by the scribe, I can't help but grin about the camaraderie happening at this moment in Kansas. That there is a big gaggle of bug-encrusted motorcycles with associated smiling Leg 1 riders!

I predict it's going to be extremely bad for the rider who did this. The VERY LAST thing riders were told before departure is to use good judgement in every action they take. This rider failed. Woe be unto this rider when s/he gets to Tulsa and faces The Wrath... 😮


It is disturbing that information about this bonus, and information from another bonus, was posted to social media on Tuesday. That information could have only come through a rider in the rally to the person who posted it. The integrity standard for this group is simple: Do not do anything during the rally about which you would be unwilling to stand up in front of your peers and admit to. The rider meeting at the checkpoint, where the Leg 2 bonus list will be distributed, should be interesting. It is also disturbing that a rider posted a photo of bonus information to Facebook on Wednesday. The rules are clear on these things, and they were covered in depth during the rider meeting. What are these folks thinking?
 
Wasn't it about a decade ago when they had the mass disqualification of riders who got outside assistance via the internet? Perhaps that lesson has been forgotten...

Bingo!

Also, combined with 2009 where packets were printed on red pages to discourage faxing and copying....but didn't succeed. Team(s) were setup to crunch numbers. Also, that was the first year bonus locations were provided on media and each rider was given a different digital version...just in case a file was shared they could trace back to the rider.

The IBR evolved...and continues to evolve with both rules, culture, and tone.
 
Looking at that backmarker still in Missouri: 150 miles in 2.5 hours...is back in the doable sub-BBG velocity. They may have made some time this afternoon!

the ones approaching Oklahoma City look a little further away than the one in Missouri....

but you never know with the delays. I've seen delays of as much as 45 minutes with people who have Garmin inReach

For most popular models, there are9 FJR's, only surpassed by 20 Goldwings, and 25 BMW 1200/1250's. Most common bike years are 2022, 2018, and 2015 models.
 
A lot of people left the CP quickly this morning....another short leg so maybe the rally packet was simple to digest and come up with a basic plan
