I was over at GFran's house this morning--Gary was going to do a TBS and I wanted to watch. We were waiting for Walt, aka Flying Junior. He said he'd be right over, but he was taking a while. Then the phone rang. He was riding down a very residential street near his house when some woman parked on the other side of the street decided to pull a slow-speed U-turn. Right into him.

Knocked him down, bent some parts (left slider, shift lever, bar end weight), knocked off his Givi top box and left bag (both wrecked), ripped his pants (NOT wearing his MotoPort gear today), and a nice big strawberry on his left thigh that he'll feel for a while. Could have been MUCH worse, of course, but what a PITA.

Upside: happened right in front of a neighborhood sidewalk cafe/sandwich shop. Two COPS sitting there having lunch, saw the whole thing, and both heard her say "I'm SO SORRY. I never SAW you." Well, silver lining. Towed to Roseville Yama with an "expedite" tag. We've gotta get up to WFO next week, you know.

Do I need to say it? Be careful, everybody.

EDIT: See post 20. The bike has been pronounced "TOTALED." :(

As having gone a similar route just recently, I'm glad to hear he is, for the most part, ok. From my personal experience I can attest to the soothing powers of percoset :)

Hope he back in the saddle soon!

Damn peeps!

To much of this happening lately! Glad to hear he's "ok". How often does it happen right in front of 2 cops? Hope Walt/bike get fixed fast!

Looking forward to meeting everybody at WFO

Be careful out there

Greg

Damn, Walt -- hope you heal up fast. You can't be missing WFO. Sorry to hear you didn't have on the Motoport suit. I did a 5 mph get off in the snow between 199 and Happy Camp 6 or 8 weeks ago and didn't feel a thing from the impact through that quad armor. So when I began to read Mike's report here, I figured you were at least well covered in that department.

I still think anybody that says "I didn't see you" should go to jail for a week, and lose their license for a year, and be on probation for that year.

"I didn't see you" = "I didn't care to look before I moved because I don't really care about anybody else's life."

Now, if somebody got really hurt by the blind person, each of those terms should go up by amounts measured with thick multi-page calendars.

Heal up fast Walt. Maybe we can do Titlow Hill rd. without the fog this time. Hope to see in Eureka.

Well that sucks. At least the outcome was not too bad.

Ill have to check out the carnage when I'm dropping off at RY on Thursday.

Well...any minute now I'm going to get my heart under control and swallow the huge lump in my throat.... :dribble:

Bad for the [s[stupid and careless[/s] lady.

Good for the location with officers watching. :clapping:

Go, Roseville Yamaha.... :yahoo:

Er...uhm...Walt, you're supposed to leave the "flying" and "awkward landing" to the professionals.....like Old Michael.

The young'uns heal quicker. :bleh:

You're going to be sore tomorrow and for the next few days. Stretch what you can and ice everything else.

MM2 said it all, but I'm not sure if that last sentence might get misunderstoof here. Wonder what kind of photo Tyler is going to come up with to illustrate that?

Get well soon. Glad to hear that a) it wasn't worse and B) the incident was witnessed by two cops.

Thanks for all the kind words. I still don't know why I didn't wear my cycleport pants this morning. Maybe because these others had been gathering moths in the closet and I wanted to get some use out of them.

Reason bedamned. Those other pants are toast, and my cycleport kevlar mesh bulletproof britches are still there. I note that there is a big slab of armor in the cyckleports right in the way of my road rash patch.

Live'n'learn.

On the plus side, Zac at rsvl yammy says it's all fixable in time for next week's grand excursion, and I'm getting some timely maintenance, new tire, &c.

May have to travel for a while with blue bags on my silver steed, though.

Glad you're OK Walt :) Drivers doing U-turns in sub-divisions (probably narrow streets ?) should be banned ---- then vaporized if they do.
Yeah, they shouldn't try to exit their cars after parallel parking either. Quite a hazard to find a door thrown open into your lane.

2 cops saw this huh? Gee Walt, you are golden!

Walt, glad to see you posting and things are relatively okay! Look forward to seeing you at WFO next week... between you, me and Brodie, the scar comparing club now has one more member. PLEASE NOTE: Membership to this club is now closed... y'all stay safe out there, k? ;)

Just got back from RY.

Not a ton of visible damage, other than the missing bag and some other scrapes and scratches.

Looks like Walt has some new air conditioning holes in these pants... right about where you want it!
