I volunteered to organize a combined Dual Sport and FJR Event in the Black Hills the last weekend of June 2018.

I will continually edit here https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/170812-black-hills-roundup-ii-27-june-1-july-2-0-1-8/ to keep all pertinent information in one place.

I expect that the weather will be in the 80's and there is always a chance of a thunder shower but June is usually one of our better months as far as weather goes.

The Prairies and Hills should be verdant green

This is a gathering to ride the many wonderful roads and trails we have here in Western SD,
https://southdakotari...ctiveridingmap/,

The Black Hills National Forest has many Motorized Use Trails - you can't ride all of these in a week https://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/cs/detail/!ut/p/z1/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfIjo8zijQwgwNHCwN_DI8zPyBcqYKAfjlVBmA9cQRQx-g1wAEci9eNREIXf-HD9KKxWIPuAkBkFuaGhEQaZjgCVqf1Y/dz/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/?position=Feature*&pname=Black%20Hills%20National%20Forest-%20Maps%20&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&ss=110203&navid=360000000000000&ttype=detail&cid=STELPRDB5203036

The Dakota Adventure Loop (DAKAL) https://www.dakotaadventureloop.com/ is available in whole or in part for those that choose to ride off the paved path. Check out this video to get an idea of what the DAKAL entails https://www.crossingdakota.com/

YAMAFITTER created these Downloadable link to GPS readable formats available in Drop Box here https://www.dropbox....8XSDMjEkwa?dl=0 for the first Black Hills Roundup.

There are few organized activities save for a steak dinner on Saturday night in the City Park under a large picnic shelter there will be a separate thread for dinner signup.

Motel #1 Bell's Motor Lodge is our home base. https://www.bellsmoto...m/amenities.php

RESERVATIONS call (800) 880-2095 Tell Scott you are with the FJR Group.

Despite being 18 months in advance this will fill up fast.

Call Penny @ 605-642-4846

Motel #3 - All Star Travelers Inn, They have 20+ rooms as https://allstartravelersinn.com/rooms/

https://visitspearfis...lsmotelslodges/ Most major chains are represented.

Campers: The City of Spearfish has a great city park with shaded camping by the creek. The campground is almost within crawling distance of Rally HQ (about a 10-minute walk when sober) for those that don't want to imbibe and ride. https://www.spearfish...servations.html Check out their website and reservation policy. I don't believe tent campers will have any problems obtaining a site or reservation the weekend of the Black Hills FJR Roundup. There are showers/bathrooms etc etc in the campground.

I'm booked at Bell's plus an extra day for the 26th - the 1st. Thinking about two days of dirt and two days on road but there's still time to think about the fine details.

I think I responded on the other thread but I'm definitely in! I've been trying to find some company for tackling the DakAL and it looks like this is the right time. I'm hoping to carry camping gear and stay out of motels/campgrounds as much as possible, but will probably need to park my truck and trailer somewhere for the duration of the trip. Anybody else out there want to stay out in the wild and ride the entire Loop?

I am hoping to ride the whole DakAL this September with Glacial Lakes Motorcycle Club group of around twenty but it will be a hotel based ride. I don't have any dual sport camping experience but I might be up for a camping based DakAL next summer.

I don't know what John has in store for parking rigs next summer but last time we stayed at Bell's, John had arranged a lot out behind the Motel for parking trucks and trailers.

I will be for sure interested in hearing about your experience this year. Will either give me more incentive to be ready to go, or convince me that I should find rides closer to home!

Bigly IN. Room booked at the Bell Motor Lodge. Riding dirt Wednesday & Thursday and then switch over to the old girl FJR for the next two days.

Well, the Dakota Adventure Loop "DakAL" weapon is just about ready for launch in ten days. Two years ago I was looking for a good used dirt bike to get more dirt experience to make me more competent off road with the Tenere. After striking out finding a good used bike I gave in and bought a 15 Honda XR650L. The plan was to ride it for a couple of years, get some experience and sell it. But then I fell in love with riding dirt and this old school enduro that Honda hasn't changed since it's 1993 introduction. Last year John told us about the DakAL 900 mile loop, that runs through the Black Hills of SD. It was then that I decided to build the old school XR6550L in to a light adventure bike. I'm hoping I got the perfect setup and I think we make a good match.

Just to attempt to prevent confusion & highjacking of the main thread or sign up thread I started a new thread on this DakAL/FODS event in ride planning and regional information exchange near Johns other Black Hills Roundup II threads.

Black Hills Roundup II DakAL/FODS Planning and discussion

Maybe John or myself could have admin lock this thread to keep all further planning and discussion in one location.
