Laugh all you want, but I once saw a guy on a BMW with something like those on his bike, and hew was riding when it was in the single digits.

I have a pair of those that I use on my quad. Everyone laughed at me till it was 18 below and I was riding with no gloves and nice and toasty. My friends where taking turns sticking the grubby paws in there! I got mine a Cabelas a few years back

I've used them. They may not win any fashion awards, but they will dang sure keep the hands nice and toasty!

Liar, I saw what you used last year, The Scabby/V-strom hanguard hibrid. Duct tape and posterboard :p

That's cause they wouldn't fit over the V-Strom handguards! So I adapted and overcame!

...the duct tape worked though.

Got a pair from a guy in UK and they rock! Mine are labeled as Oxford Muffs and I have had them on to -2 degrees and rode 50 miles with no issues, just a regular pair of motorcycle gloves on underneth. They also work good in the rain. Only downside is that activating the turn signal is damn near impossible on my FJR but on my Shadow they work great

Normal on police bikes and sidehacks in the winter.
Absofrikkenlutely!! When I rode for work, I'd have hippo hands on for at least 4 months out of the year during the rainy and winter months. They are life-savers when it comes to keeping your hands warm and DRY during rain rides.

To tip my hand a bit, I've been speaking with Watershed (click here) lately. They're a local outfit in Salem, Oregon that produces some of the most extraordinary rain gear in existence. About a year ago, they put together some custom hippo hands for our motors. The ones they did look very un-dorky and breathe well enough to throw them in your bags for an unexpected summer downpour. I've been speaking with them on/off over the last six months about an FJR design. (They've only cut for BMWs and Hondas so far) They're interested and I had hoped to get my bike down to them for measurements and my input to start the prototype. I got de-railed with my surgery at the end of August and have not rode since. My hope is that between now and next summer, this little project will take place and if all goes well, to string together a group buy here for those interested. I can not tell you how sweet these things are when it comes to rain and cold.

As things progress over the next few months, I'll start an original thread on this to keep you all posted.

Jason, when you get them ordered, I'll take a pair! I have the Hippo Hands now on top of the V-Strom guards and they work, but with the XM antenna, the angle just isn't right and it magnifies the already poor handlebar angle IMO.

When they are available you can count me in for a set and maybe two if my bride wants some for her bike.

I had the originals on my old BMW's 30 years ago in Vancouver, where the riding season is longer than in most of Canada, but the winters are usually wet.

Something purpose-made and water-repellent sounds good to me - add me to the group buy interested list!

I've hadt the Hippo Hands for years. Got them from a local dealer. They were only 20 bucks. Any shop that has 4-wheelers should have them.

Damn! I post something as a joke, and everyone gets all serious on me, wanting to start group buys and all! LOL I just thought they were funny looking on the scooter!

I can see where they'd be useful in the wet and cold. Don't think I need them in Fla. though!
