Ford Ranger XLT 2.5 TD

I have just bought a Ford Ranger 2.5 Td super cab. Never driven one. Would like to know if any one of you have had some experience with this truck. Economy, relability and max crusing speed would be a good start.

Howard, I've Owned a 2.5 standard cab for about nine years (short box 109" wheelbase all manual) .It's been absouletly the best truck I've ever owned! Right after I bought it I changed ALL of the fluids to synthetics and put a K&N air filter in. I"ve been getting around 27mpg on the freeway & 24mpg all around. The truck runs out of steam at 75-80 mph,top speed was around 100 before rev limiter kicks in.Just watch out if you change the front shocks the lower stud mount WILL shear off!(Passenger side radius arm) There is a web site for Ranger owners.Too bad Ford is going to close it's only Ranger /Madzda Plant in St.Paul in another year.You've picked a good one!!!!

The ones we use have a good service/reliability record. All I've seen are several that had to have the Ac/Heat temp mix door assembly replaced. It wasn't cheap, and seems a problem unique to the Rangers. Like I said, of the 5 or 6 we have, 3 have needed the repair, all 98 or newer.
