Just breaking in my 2014 ES and loving it. Seems to me that the front fork compression dampening is a bit stiff. Even on the softest setting I feel a lot of small bumps I should be able to glide over. I run 2.5 weight fork oil in my dirt bikes for the same reason. I would like a supple ride when I put it on soft. I am thinking that I can use a lighter weight oil in the compression fork leg and leave the stock oil in the rebound fork leg. Has anyone tried this?

Hmmmm I can't post a link for some reason.

Google search FJRFourm fork oil change. Lots of opinions to be found

Yamaha M1 fork oil is already pretty thin. the Gen II calls for this, not sure about the ES. I don't think you'll find anything thinner, and what about your warranty, changing oil will shoot it in the foot won't it?

I think you are on the right track.....if the ES damping for the left fork is working properly. There are lighter fork oils available but since you are the only one that has reported this problem, I would check the operation of the left fork damping motor/damper rod and confirm that the damper rod is retracting properly when you select the soft setting. It may be possible that the motor isn't working or the damper rod is stuck in the "hard" setting.
