Fork Protectors

I've got ~45K miles on my '04 and really the biggest sign of wear is the front forks with lots of tiny "chips." I'll be purchasing a new bike hopefully soon & I'd like to put on some clear fork protectors (maybe similar to Tankslapper material) and wondering what people out there are using. Thanks.

Are you suggesting putting the tape over the lower aluminum portion or the chromed tubes?

I'd think tape on the tubes would interfere with the fork oil seals.
