I recently purchased a new to me 20005 Gen I 1300A with about 20,000 miles on it.  A nice bike I think, but I notice that when I turn on the ignition, the front left and right marker lights, (turn signals), come on, but the rear do not. Is this the way the bike was designed, or should all four corners light up?  Thank you for your input.

On my 05' Gen 1: a) the front running/turn signals are dual filament bulbs b) the rear turn signals are single filament c) the rear tail/brake lights are dual filament.

So with the key in the on position the front amber running lights and the rear red tail lights come on. The rear amber turn signals only come on with the turn signal switch.

I believe since the rear turn signal lenses are amber they can't be used as running lights, only turn signals. I could be wrong.

I hope that was what you were asking about. Have fun on the new (to you) FJR. 😎

Thanks for your reply.  As you describe your bike, it makes sense to me.  If a single filament bulb is what came from the factory, then I would assume rear running lights are not part of the package.  I never thought to check the bulb.  Thanks.

"Rear running lights" would be the taillights, and they should illuminate when the bike is turned on. There's not a "running light" separate from the taillights. The taillight bulbs are dual-filament on a 2005, with the second filament being for the brake lights.

The amber lights at the rear are turn signals. It's not legal to have rear-facing always-on amber lights. Those bulbs are single-filament and serve no purpose other than turn signals/hazard flashers.
