He did say he will pick up the tab. We will see how this works out.

Diamonds? Would you believe this happened while she and the kids were at Ocean Isle with the in-laws? (Damn, I had to stay home and work ride :D )

The house was spotless and there was her favorite "welcome home" cake when she got home. Dinner too. But diamonds? If I went that far there would be oil placed on every curve around my house!!!! Just kiddin'. She knows she can ride the '06. She wants to ride it with the new cal sci +2.5 today anyway....

I assume your "friend" will honor the tried and true axiom... "you break it, you bought it"...?
That would comprise the list of options I would give him. And why I don't like being on other guys rides-nor they on mine.
Yep.

#1 - does your insurance cover others operating your bike (unlike cars, this is often NOT the case)

#2 - does he have insurance that covers him on other bikes (if he's not paying the premium for higher performance bikes then probably not)

#3 - the first 2 years of riding and the first 6 months after switching to a new bike are the times when you are at highest risk

Pretty much sums up why I usually don't let someone ride my bike and don't feel comfortable asking to ride someone else's.

#1. Yes w/250 deduct

#2. Yes, but it gets interesting here. Since I gave him "permission", it is my fault, even though he has coverage. If I didn't give him permission, then he stole it and my insurance company would go legal...

#3. Agreed.

For the record, I have Geico and he has State Farm.

$4500 seems like a lot of damage though we all know plastic is expensive. Once your dealer writes up the damage send the list to Gary McCoy @ University Motors for a price comparison.

Perhaps as others have mentioned your buddy should buy the bike ( at a pre-crash sale price ), turn the crash damage into his own insurance co. and you go used bike shopping ?

Ahhh...

Here is where you'll probably find out why you should switch to State Farm ;)

After you wrap this up with Geico... If State Farm has your house and cars switch to them, it won't be so bad.

Since KY is no fault though I have no idea what SF rates are like down there, or Geico's for that matter but the service is worth it IMHO. Things would have been smoother if you both had them.

If he's a friend it will work out...

Friends NEVER let their friends ride their machines. I've seen and heard this same scenario played out too many times...

I also have witnessed two good friends ruin their friendship over an accident just like this, especially after their wives got involved.

Ahh Murphy's Law. Glad your friend is going to be ok. Have often wanted to ride a friends bike for the comparison. I have had offers but ended up turning it down at the moment and not bringing it up again. Just can't imagine how low I would feel about messing up someones bike. I would most likely ride it so gingerly it would not be much of a comparison. Hard to resist and hard to say no when a good friend wants to ride your bike to check it out. But, with my luck...........

>>Cause of the crash: Uneven pavement. He hit this while leaning into the turn and thought the bike was sliding so he grabbed a handful of front brake.<<

What an idiot.

A guy I ride with on occasion is always offering his bike for rides-- I've never stepped forward; I don't like the bike he's offering anyway... and has asked for a ride on my "other" bike. This story tells me I've made the right decision by refusing.

For the record, I have Geico...#1. Yes w/250 deduct
Good to know. Ask GEICO about using a radar detector or riding for more than 500 miles (or 12 hours) in a day. Start upping the mileage and/or hours and watch their eyes bleed.

#2. Yes, but it gets interesting here. Since I gave him "permission", it is my fault, even though he has coverage. If I didn't give him permission, then he stole it and my insurance company would go legal.
Yet another reason why GEICO is an :******: and those, who have been exposed to their :asshat2: -edness have moved to other insurance carriers.

#3. Agreed.
Better late than never.
