Brother-in-law is close to beginning the rebuild of his '03 after crashing it frontally. He has all the parts (thanks to Ignacio) except the Gen 1 "Front Stay 1," also commonly referred to here as the front sub frame, I believe. Part # 5JW-28356-00-00. If anyone has one, let us know and at what price. Thanks!

Don't know your particulars, but if the mirror tab is just bent, would you consider cutting and re-welding it straight? I bought a used repaired front stay for my bike that was repaired that way and it's absolutely perfect (all of the Tupperware fits right).

I'm not sure but I think the one on B-I-L's bike has a general twist to the entire structure. Folks with some expertise have recommended against any straightening attempt ("You'll wind up breaking plastic"). I'll alert him to the one on e-bay but if it's not known to be straight, I'd be dubious. Thanks for the responses and your help.

The most common damage to these is that the mirror mounts get tweaked. I would ask the Ebay guy what damage the donor bike had, and if it's not a front-end accident, it might be worth a try. As I said, he offers a 30 day return policy, so savings are substantial.

I think that I can probably help out. I have one hanging in the garage off of my 2004. The '04 was bumped into by a car up in OR a few years ago. It tipped over into my buddy's bike who's bike then fell into the car next to him. All low impact. After fixing some busted plastic I talked myself into thinking the fairing 'leaned' a bit to the right while riding it. So I bought a new stay and when I compared the two on the bench I couldn't see a difference. After installing the new stay I still thought that the fairing leaned a bit to the right. I just got used to it after that. Anyways, I'd be happy to send it your way for about the cost of shipping. Likely < $20. I've come close to throwing it away a few times but always felt there wasn't anything wrong with it. I should be able to get it boxed up this weekend and hopefully shipped out Monday if you're interested. Let me know.

Regards,

Gary

Shipping and chicken dinner for sure! st4Gary, thank you! I PM'd you and will now do what I can to get you in touch with brother-in-law, Tim. He just bought a (bass) boat-load of stuff from Igancio and Ignacio can vouch for his integrity and the integrity of his checks! Just don't let that part go until we can get you and Tim together. PM your e-mail or phone number, please so closing the deal can commence.

The shipping was so cheap we're just going to call this one a 'pay-it-forward'. I'm happy to be helping Tim get the FJR back on the road and have the part be put to good use. I hope to make it ID/MT this coming summer for a couple of weeks and if it works out and I'm in the neighborhood, I'd be happy to let Tim buy me a beer. I hope he heals up quickly as well.

Gary has good Karma coming his way (and a beer, maybe chicken dinner!) Would love to see you in this part of the woods in the spring (-13 degrees here this a.m.).
