I had not been on the FJR for a while (don't ask) but I took it out last Thursday for a little ride over the San Gabriel Mountains in So Cal. I'm riding Angeles Crest Hwy and turn into Angeles Forest Hwy towards Palmdale. Riding easy at first, making sure I'm taking the right lines. Here you have to take a more conservative line due to fallen rocks and more likely, idiot cagers who routinely cross the double yellow line.

I feel good. The bike feels great. The corner speeds get higher and my grin is ear-to-ear. Why did I stop riding for so long, nothing is better than this.

All my worries are gone and all I'm thinking about is the next apex and a good drive out of the corner. Relax on the straights and repeat. Riding the FJR is better than any therapy or meds that you can think of. Cheaper too even with $3.39 gas.

Lesson learned: procrastinate on the stupid stuff and ride more. From now on, I'm self-medicating with the FJR.

On the Angeles Forest Hwy again today and a young rider on a R6 played tag with me. Like my last post, had another great ride. The kid on the R6 would catch me on the straights (I cruise the straights, anyone can twist the throttle) but he couldn't maintain speed in the corners so I'd be way ahead out of the turn :p .

I'm not even that fast and in fact, I'm just starting my riding season B)

I even raised my karma points when I pulled over to help a Highway Patrolman look for a downed rider after he/she low-sided a Gixxer. No one to find since the crash happened earlier in the day. I sure hope Office McMichael remembers me if he ever pulls me over :exhappysmiley:

Aaahhh, Angeles Crest....I assume Newcomb's Ranch is still there serving those tasty breakfasts? Nothinn like a good breakfast then outside to ogle all the bikes and then more fun riding the curves. Drawback, no offence, is having to live in the crowded L.A. basin. Guess I'll stick with the Midwest with occassional jaunts down to se KY for roads that are as good or better than the Crest, but without the traffic and LEOs! No smog around there either, LOL! DFO :p

Newcomb's Ranch is still there. Yesterday, there was Kawasaki ZZR Rally and lots of other bikes. Passed on the BBQ Buffet; it didn't look too good. :ermm:

Being Memorial Day weekend, Angeles Crest was filled with law enforcement. They were EVERYWHERE. For the last few years Angeles Crest is nice on the weekdays but the weekends are for lawful speeds only due to an increase in LEO presence.

According to the CalTrans web page, Angeles Crest (SR-2) is stilled closed at Islip Saddle, due to road bed damage from the storms in 2005.
I really wished they would re-open (re-build) the connection between SR-2 and 39 to Azusa. It would make for a nice loop.
