The photos I've seen of the FZ07 engine show a non-standard sprocket on the exhaust camshaft.

Now the parts diagrams for the 07 are available on the Yamaha site.

Maybe those small pins (Tag #11) extend out of the cam lobes until the engine is started and idling.

Also on the "Intake 2" diagram something else I haven't seen before -- a tiny stepping motor (Tag #5).

Maybe this provides the cold start elevated rpm and also the idle speed control from the computer.

Yamaha is always advancing the ball down the field.

 
My experience riding the FZ-07 quite a bit lately is that it is cold natured. Worse than most Yamahas I have encountered. But once warmed up is a *freaking fun* bike to ride. They really got this one right.
