Gap on throttle with washer just bouncing around on 2009

I've got a pretty big gap between my throttle grip and the switch housing on my new '09 which has a black washer just bouncing around in the space there.

Is that normal?

For the life of me I can't figure out how to make the image appear in this post...

The gap is because the throttle grip hasn't been installed all the way on the plastic throttle tube.

The washer is just a device to keep the rubber grip from dragging on the housing and causing a slow action due to friction.

Take advantage of this gap by installing a VistaCruise in that spot.

What Brodie said! That's a great place for the Vista Cruise and is exactly what I did on my 08. It's a $30 addition that once you get it installed, you will wonder how you ever got along without it, especially when that ole right hand starts tingling! Have fun with your new bike. I sure love mine.

Or you can fix it wright by pushing the grip up or switch housing down.The washer is not soppose to move around!!!

I think a gap there is normal. The switch housing cannot be moved (it has a pin that seats into a hole in the handlebar to position it). If you move the grip, then you'll just be creating a bigger gap between the other end of the grip and the bar end cap/weight.

The gap is normal. If the washer is moving around a lot you might be headed for a performance award.

My 09 is the same and I wondered why so I called and spoke to an engineer in the

headquarters office in Cypress, CA.

He explained that this gap is precision engneered and the spacing should not be normally

be adjusted. The gap has been specifically designed to harmonically resonate with the

engine at cruise RPM's. This resonation causes the plastic ring to sympathecitally vibrate,

rotate and oscillate in the gap.

This movement is designed to keep the throttle assembly clean of debris and dust, also

when the silicone based ring wears, small bits of silicone become trapped in the throttle

tube and find their way into the throttle cables creating a "Self Lubricating" assembly.

They were quite proud of this design.

I concur with all the ^^^^^^: makes sense to me .... :blink:

2 spacers may be even better and may help reduce the , very disconcerting, lissajou patterns in your mirrors?
