Garmin 2720/2730

I'm thinking of getting one of these two units and maybe used on Ebay. Does anyone know if I buy a used unit that does not have the newer version 8 sft ware can it be upgraded from the Garmin web site for free or at a Garmin dealer?

You can upgrade, but you've got to pay. I did upgrade recently and it was worth it.

I bought the 2720 with Ver 7 about 2 months ago. I got the Ver 8 for FREE. Ver 8 came out in Mar 06 (I think) - if you buy one and get ver 7 after that date you get ver 8 for free. NOTE - Ver 7 is on a CD and ver 8 is on a DVD. Yup, just bought a brand new DVD drive!

Can't remember for sure but I 'think' the upgrade price is something like $75 assuming you dotn fall into the group that gets to upgrade free as listed above.

Defintely worth it though.

After seeing what the used ones are going for and the price of some new ones , I think I'm gona go new.
