I have a Garmin 276c now and am thinking about an upgrade to a refurbished 478. Any feed back on this?

Another question, my wife has a 2730 with the XM antenna. Can I use the same XM antenna and same subscription on a 478? I think I can because the antenna is actually the radio.

The 478 and 276 are extremely similar in terms of their operation - having the mapping on board is a definite plus, but I haven't used a 478 in the field . . . .

As to the XM, the answer is yes, you can use the same puck. The 478 will also display weather and such if you care to subscribe.

you won't need extra memory, the 478 holds it all.

I have the high def radar weather and really appreciate it in the mountains where the weather is important and the weather radio usually does not work.

I run mine on the 2010 maps at the moment.

The xm usb plug is not waterproof. The garmin mount protects it from water, but watch out if you use another mounting bracket.
