Gas Prices going HOT - MidWest

Refinery in the midwest had issues in Indiana, and projected prices are going to be hiked by at least $.50 a gallon...

Just a heads up.....


They are projecting sub $2.00 a gallon by later this fall early winter, but the refinery issue has already jacked up prices 60 cents today alone.... not to mention 10 - 15 cents yesterday....

If your looking to save a buck.... this is your heads up....

I buy tanker trucks of 8600 gallons - 5 times a week and I have never seen anything like this in 20 years, even though the price for crude is falling hard....

Be warned if you are of in need for a bulk fill up....

In Europe and Greece the one gallon costs about $6.20!!

In this part of Canada gas is $1.14/litre. Works out to $4.30/US gallon and factoring the exchange rate makes it closer to $5.40 .

Boy, I wish I hadn't done that calculation.

Gas prices in Canada are impossible to understand, A couple of years ago when crude oil was triple today's price we were paying $1.35/litre.

riding in Virginia where gas is $2.15 a gallon.

Makes me want to go back.

Not directly related, but I was surprised on my trip out west last Month... gas was MUCH more expensive than back East!

Granted some of the spots like around Jackson Hole, Glacier are inflated due to tourism (3.49/G) but we didn't see or find anything less than our Chicago and east prices of $2.25 (w a couple even less).

Meh. It is what it is. If you work hard to conserve consumption they simply hike the tax to get their desired revenue back to levels to which they have become gotten addicted. The end result is the same cost to go riding; even if it's like OR new miles ridden tariff.

Sadly none of this helps me since my royalties are based on the cost when sold to the refineries.

Yeah its bad enough that the EPA and DNR have determined that we need to have reformulated fuel in these parts with 10% ethenol in it, raising the prices and IMO wasting our food base to power vehicles. Can't honestly IMO feel that is a well thought out idea for the nation....

But that is a whole Political scenario that is not to be touched upon on this forum.......

So I got the report in last night at market close that the price for us went up 66 cents.... thank god I got a load and my tanks are full to the brim before that happened.

Yeah, gas jumped about 20-30 cents per gallon between yesterday and today to $2.59 at almost every gas station. Some have even jacked up to $2.99/gal.

Normally our prices in the Denver area are moderate but have risen .40 c in the last few days. Right now they are pushing $2.75 - 2.99 a gallon. Labor Day won't help either. I wonder how fast the oil company is trying to fix the problem?

News was that trickled down my direction, of which I can hold zero validity, they didn't expect the turn around on repairs to last for more then a couple weeks.

Now - I will state and just had a customer talk to me this morning. Apparently he is the head of the Audi club around here, so him and all his high end car buddies get together and discuss their high end car stuff on a regular basis. I will say he's a good guy and has promoted my business to everyone he knows in our area. His question was about the new spread of price between Reg. and Prem gas after this latest scenario with the refinery repairs, the normal spread between unleaded and premium was about 30 cents a gallon, now that has almost doubled. I'm not sure why.....

On top of the cost of gas, very little people pay cash for gasoline, almost everyone uses a CC, so you have to add on 3% to the cost, and also the cost for trucking to get it to the station which is another few cents per gallon, then try and make some profit on it, which if there is enough competition in the area, you can't make too much or you will sit on a load too long... There is not much in the way of profit on a gallon of gas - which is why all gas stations have a C-Store / Car Wash / Service what have you.... Gas is there to get you in to sell you what they really want to sell you to make money.

Because of the affluent neighborhood surrounding our business, we have been labeled by Shell Oil that we sell the most amount of Premium Gasoline in the entire state of WI. Now that's not really all that much of a big deal - until you take into account that we only have 3 gas pumps, with 6 fueling positions.

Some Information

BP last Saturday shut down part of its Whiting, Ind., refinery for, quote, "unscheduled repair work."

Since gas doesn't store well, it's refined not long before it's burned in your car. Any disruption at refinery sends suppliers scrambling to secure enough fuel to fill their tanks. They bid up prices in the process. If low oil prices hold, gasoline likely will fall to a national average of just above $2 a gallon in coming months.

Not yet. $2.14 to $2.20. $.03 less if you fill at Sheetz and swipe your Sheetz card first.
