There is a very big difference in price between...

Yamaha 9079E-SH001-00 ($19.95 / pint at FJRGoodies.com), and
Yamalube ACC-SHAFT-LU-OO Friction Modified Shaft Drive Gear Oil, SAE 80W-90, API GL-4, GL-5 ($5.99 / quart at my local dealer).
My dealer swears the lower cost gear lube will lube my FJR drive gears just fine...but I am skeptical. Am I missing some critical protection by using the wrong stuff?

Yeah, I know, I know. This post is at risk of becoming a pointless...

do a forum search for "whale ****." It's the secret ingredient. I think Yamaha makes its interns collect it.

I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W90 at about $8.00. It was the 2nd highest ranking lube in the Amsoil white paper on gear lubricants.
