For the last 1000 km or so i've been noticing that shifts are more often feeling like a double click event. The only way it seem's to be smooth is when i'm briskly accelerating and timing my **** perfectly as if I was not using the clutch. (last bike was an 03' yzf600r so i'm use-to sensitive gearing/dogs) But it really starting to piss me off. Anyone else feeling this?,.... I this just another symptom of a less than wonderful throw-out cylinder design. At the medium lever setting the basket starts to re-engage less than 1/2 an inch from the grip....I don't think i could use the closest position as the disks/plates would be dragging with the lever pulled in.

And the Vibes over 4000 rpm,..ERRRRrrrrrr

Gotta get the time to do a sync

I'm Done Ragging

Did four hour's(pretty much straight) this past saturday and was very pleased with overall comfort/ride position/seat,.....Would have had no prob doing another 4 hours,........If i didn't have to get back home

Cheers

How many miles you logged on the 07?

Strangely, the magic number for the transmission smoothing out, seems to be 8,000. At least that's the pattern I'm seeing.

And yes, for 7,500 miles I have felt like I forgot how to shift. Just could NOT get it right. The 07 takes some serious break-in time.

Don,

For me it was nothing more than adjusting the position of the shifter. I had the same symptoms as you, and adjusting it instantly solved the problem. YMMV.

try applying a little pressure on the lever before you let off the gas to shift. With this you can skip the clutch if you want.

Certainly my shift is much easier and smoother when the revs are past 4000rpm. Below that, and around 2500rpm around town, it can prove to be rather clunky (accentuating the throttle issue even more). Currently have 2500kms on the bike...so a while to go yet.

If the changes being experienced at 4000rpm and above are indicative of what I will expect when the 'box is run in...then this is going to be one smooth gearbox. And I thought my '93 FJ gearbox was the business!

Some use synthetic and add 8 oz of STP. They say its buttery smooth on the shifts. I noticed in Kragens the other day Valvoline now has an alternative synthetic to compete with stp. Their info says it lubricates way better. Worth a try.

Jeff,

Just 2200 km (1700 miles) in the last two months from new,....too much work/weather.

What number do you have you'r Cl lever set to ?

Gary,

Yhea,....I guess dropping the lever down a spline is worth a shot RE dear olde 600R forum..

And Gary,.... do you notice the vibes start to become noticeable @ 4100+ revs

I'm at 8,800 miles.

Also have the 05 clutch slave cylinder, so more clutch lever deflection is required than the stock setup. Can't run the lever closer than four(4) mostly because of the slave cylinder difference and I have oversize grips.

DonRed, try the R1 shift lever install, really does make alot of difference. Pull a search, someone here has the actual PN that I used to order mine.

Jeff, try a second clutch slave cylinder bleed, it made a difference for me, not a lot but some. (my opinion)

my 07 is a bit "clunky" on shifts at times. Main complaint from me is a blocked downshift from 5th to 4th. It sticks between the two gears and I have to let the clutch out to get engagement of 4th gear. Anyone else experiencing that one?

I'm glad to see it's not just me. I've experienced the same thing. Easing around town, shifts nmake me feel like a rank amateur. Accelerate onto the highway, and they're smooth. 2900 mis on the odo. Hope this smooths out before 8k!!

First, gearboxs break-in by being used. Racking up miles in 5th gear doesn't work. Spend some time riding around town where your more likely to encounter frequent gear changes.

Second, if shifting feels stiff or resistent, change your oil. Your bike is still running-in and will shift more smoothly with fresh oil.

Lastly, don't ride an FJR like a cruiser. It doesn't much care for being short-shifted. Some would consider loading the engine below 3K RPM's lugging the engine. Try revving it a bit higher before shifting. You don't have to "get on it", just hold trottle till you get to about 4K+ RPM's, then shift.

Compared to other bikes I've owned the FJR does seem to break-in slower but that may be because it's harder to sustain higher loading on it's components: it just isn't very stressed in normal riding.

With that said, it really isn't any worse than other bikes I've owned.

changed to Delvac at 5500 Miles(8851KM), now at 8,500 Miles(13,679KM). I was just noticing the other day that it seemed like it was shifting a little smoother, but it was so subtle i thought it was my imagination or my skilful hands, but after reading some of the comments about 8,000 miles it may be true.

That may very well be the source of my troubles. I've been on cruisers for 16 years and to my ear, it sounds like I'm really revving the FJR before I shift. And I'm probably shifting before 4K RPM. I'll let 'er wind up a bit more. Thanks for the tip.

my 06 shifts the same way some time smooth some time clunky-technique doesnt seem to have much effect-I posted earlier on the same problem only have 2,500 miles on bike but seems a little better than new. I also noticed it shifts smoother not using the clutch. mine also shifts worse using 15/40 diesel oil switched to bike specific oil and seemed to shift better but still not like it should

I came off a 03' YZF600R that didn't hit the rev limiter till 13,500 and i can't make the thing shift smoothly unless i spend most of my ride focusing on the way i'm dealing with the tranny and clutch. It's like the clutch isn't smoothing out the RPM transition at all,...and it only goes(with less than a double click) feel if i hit the rpm match perfectly.

Really, gentlemen, my '05 is over 27K miles and STILL doesn't like to be short-shifted. It really likes (and is easier) to be shifted above 3,500 rpms. Part of your issues are retraining your muscle memory to shift the FJR like IT wants to be shifted. The training takes about 8,000 miles. :lol2:

BIG!! :yahoo: ,... Thank you, Mike on you'r post. My last 600 km's have been a dream (shifting wise) as compared to the previous 3000, and the double click thing is gone....I've been finding that the shift's with regards to smoothness are perfect and much easier up around the 4,400/4,800 range and major "unloading of the tranny" with heavy acceleration and then (Clutch In) is not as critical or necessary any more.

I Hate to dig up topics that need to slowly go away even my own but this is one that i think the positive outcome will help several newb's out there.......

-Picked up a $20 buck Throttle Rocker II today......After using it for an hour or so on there i realise it's with me for my time with this bike. Ya' all gotta try it,...

Cheers
