I don't know if I'm late to the party on this or not. Browsing the Yamaha site I noticed they now offer a new comfort GEL seat as an accessory. Couple of questions 1) Anyone have one and if so how would you rate it 2) would these fit older models (mine is an 05)

David

I think the aftermarket seats have more to offer as they can custom sculpt to the exact ah....shape of your backside.

I don't think it will fit the 05 but I could be wrong.

It is better than the stock seat. A bit wider and firmer. The comfort seat is more comfy but not lazyboy comfy. I could go two hours on the stock seat before my butt started to hurt and with the comfort seat I can probably go 5 hours and then the butt burn sets in. If you want lazyboy comfort you'll have to fork over the extra $$$ and go aftermarket like rick mayer/russell/corbin.

Sorry, Guys and Gals. I think I just started another thread on this. See "Yamaha Gel Saddle" (tonite).

Don't buy Corbin. After 10k miles, it's still hard as a rock and the workmanship is lousy. Waste of money IMO.

Corbin is a love it or hate seat. I have had Corbin seats on 3 bikes totaling 225,000 miles. Several 1000 mile days on them. The "hard as a rock" feel supports your cheeks, keeps the load off the spine, and for serious riders allows absolute comfort for long rides. I also have a Rick Mayer saddle for my FJR, and it too is a superb seat. Rick is a master craftsman and an honest man with more scruples than are found in most folks these days. You can't go wrong with either seat, depending on your preferences.

Just my opinion after 250,000 miles in 11 years.

I have been researching for quite a while and am holding out for a Rick Mayer seat. They look awesome and get great reviews.

If I buy a replacement seat the yamaha is the only one I am currently even considering... It is rediculous that anyone should have to pay more for a motorcycle seat than I pay for a leather lazy boy recliner... period <_<

might be blasphemy to say it, but while I'm sure they're quality, hand-made, low-volume products, I agree with you. There's not $500+ of materials in there, assuming you provide the saddle-maker the seat pans, so that labor is pretty dear.

I enjoy working with my hands and I've done some leatherwork in the past, so I'm going to give modifying a spare set of seats a chance.

1) Couldn't tell you how comfy they are because...

2) No! They definitely do not fit 1st gen FJRs.

If you need a comfort seat jump on the Russel group buy going on this month. You'll get 20% off of a custom seat. If you order the basic vinyl covered solo seat you'll get it for less than $400 with the discount. A solo means they custom sculpt the driver's seat and just recover the passengers seat to match.

I found using the AeroStich riding pants to be the best bang for the buck.

$40-50 beats a $600 plus seat. These type pants are all used by bike riders

and look at their seats(like 1inch thick).
