OK.. I have searched the PRT's and used the FJR search engine but am hoping to get more specific answers. My 2007 FJR1300 is throwing out a lot of heat! The metal between the gas tank and side fairing gets almost too hot to touch and the side fairing get immensely hot!! The heat on my legs is similar to heat output from a Harley!! The heat gauge reading gets up to about 3/4 of the way. And this is riding between 30-45 mph.

Would adding a PCIII , K&N filter, and slipons help to reduce the engine heat??

Thanks for your help.

In a word - no. Having done all that I can't feel much of a difference.

All that HP under wraps is going to put out some heat and since the engine is bolted to the frame, that part is going to get especially hot.

It's been 100+ here for two weeks. I've seen 109F on my commute and in that kind of stop/go traffic, you will see 3/4 on the temp gauge easy.

I recommend good quality, non-mesh riding pants and gloves...and not touching the hot parts with your bare hands

The frame near your legs will get hot regardless of what you do. It helps to angle your knees out a bit and catch some wind. The good news is that when the weather turns cooler, you will be thankful for your heater.

Same thing on my Gen I. Riding pants (I wear mesh) and good boots are the only thing that protect me on my 100+ degree commute. Still...the FJR is cooler than my C-10 Connie, as long as I'm moving. It's the stopping that kills overwhelms me.

All right then, thanks for the fast responses!! Just didn't remember my bike getting so hot last summer. I guess my new mesh pants has to go back in the closet.

My experience with a PCIII running a good (leanish) map, has resulted in the bike running around 1 temp bar lower, than stock. This effect was repeated on another GenII with the same setup.

I also have flushed the radiator and replaced the fluid with Engine Ice. Good stuff for cooling the engine a bit. It seems to work fine for me and I live in South Florida.

I have the same bike and the only time my temp bars go above 1/2 way is in stop and got traffic, and then it has to be above 80 degrees.

If your bars are 3/4 and your not in stop and go, I would say that is NOT normal.

Also, FWIW, I've never noticed any part of my bike being as hot as you've discribed.

My bike is stock.

Hi,

I have a 07 AE and have never noticed this kind of heat. 4 bars on the temp gauge unless stopped in traffic then maybe 6. Perhaps because it is usually below 80 here. I suspect ambient temperature may have a large effect.

Good luck

Trust me. In 100+ heat, stop-n-go traffic, you will see 7 or 8 bars and the fans running if you come to a stop long enough... In fact, 105+ heat will light a 5th bar at a steady 70 mph which never happens at temps below that.

Same here. We been seeing some 113 temps the past few days. If it's over a 100, I see 6-7 bars. 8 bars if we get up to the 110+ range.

I didn't recall the bike getting so hot after 8k miles, but after the last dealer service it seems MUCH hotter. I actually popped the tank and checked - the heat shield is in place, but for some reason the bike just seems much hotter.

Maybe I've just enjoyed the last 8k so much I never noticed! ;-)

I am sure it is adequate stuff for cooling the engine. Maybe not so adequate for corrosion protection?

Regardless, it's not any better stuff for cooling the engine than your typical off the shelf coolant.

And all you girly-Gen II owners whining and crying about the heat........

You crack me up!

REAL MEN ride Gen I FJRs and don't give a damn about the heat!

This guy lives no where near Texas, when is the last time it was 105 in Boston?

Yeah that's just the problem- I was in Ohio a couple weeks ago when I first noticed the heat-had CCM in Wilmongton check it out but as long as the fan did kick in the service said it's OK. But I have had the bike since 07 ....... haven't been in temps over 95 but getting 3/4 bars now.

I have an '07 and have ridden it in some pretty good heat. 7 or 8 bars have shown on the gauge and the fans come on. I have never felt the kind of heat you are talking about though. When the fans come on, there is distinct heat coming from the vents in the farings, but nothing uncomfortable. Has someone had your bike apart? Are you missing some insulation or something? If your bikes getting that hot, something's not right.
