I have a 2009 with a Helibars triple clamp and a Russell seat with 92K miles. I cannot comfortably reach the bars and I cannot sell the bike for a decent price. So I might as well keep on using it. I have a couple of ideas for moving the bars back. One of which is to make a "riser" clamp that clamps to the stock bar and holds a new bar farther back toward the seat. This would mean cutting off part of the stock handlebar. Therefore I am looking for a low dollar set of stock handlebars that I can cut up and not shed a lot of tears if it does not work out.

Why not swap your HeliBar triple clamp out and install the newer HeliBar bridge. The bridge offers way more setback, almost too much in the full rearward position. That would be much easier than what you are describing and would not look bad either.

MV bar riser plate. Raises the bars by about 20mm and back by 44mm, makes for a much more comfortable riding position, they come up quite often on flea bay, as people defarkle their bikes prior to selling on. No need to replace cables or brake/clutch hoses.

Thanks for the inputs. The Heli Bridge is something new since I last talked with Helibars. It will require me to get a stock triple clamp but I think that is the route I will try.
