Hi all

last year as I was installing my highway pegs I stripped one of the threads which I am intending to fix by putting in a helicoil insert. As I remove the generator cover I am assuming that the stator assembly comes out too as a unit? If this assumption is correct, there is no need to undo the stator assembly coupler, correct? Thus no need for rtv bonding there? Only new gasket, is that right? One more question, do I need to empty the engine oil as the manual calls tor or is this something similar to the clutch on the other side?

THANKS ALL

Luis (gen I)

I'd venture to guess that you can install the helicoil without removing the cover. Try drilling the cover a bit larger than the tap before you cut the threads below it.

It's called farming 101. We do that alot on bikes here in 'merica........

Cover comes off with the stator.

The rotor magnet doesn't want to let go, be prepared to pull hard after the gasket is split, but watch out not to yank the stator wire when it does come away.

Have something ready to support its weight so it doesn't dangle on its wire.

The intermediate gearwheel sits on a pin that comes out, in the picture it's on back to front (I put it here to keep it safely).

Note the oil level in your site glass.

You shouldn't need to drain any out, but there will be some residual to catch.
