I had my FJR pushed over in a supermarket parking lot by an entering car while on vacation. I was in the store. A kid comes runinnig up to me and asks "Is that your blue motorcycle out there? It just got hit!!!" Well the guy barely pushed it over but....... my helmet went rolling and the left bag, bar end weight, clutch lever, mirror, moto slider and the generator housing all got scraped, somewhat. Not terrible, but enough to piss you off  . I am currently doing the insurance dance with the guy, but here is my question:

The bike was obviously still rideable so I rode off to the campsite for the night. I as parked the bike I reached down to feel the damage on the generator housing and noticed it was quite hot, too hot to touch with a bare hand. As I never had a reason to feel that housing after riding, I didn't know if that was normal or not. Can you guys guys let me know if that level of heat is normal after riding or not? I just want to know if I need to crack open that housing and look for more damage. Again, the scrape on the housing is relatively minor.

Thanks in advance,

Sorry to hear about the tip over...cages just don't get it eh? The heat you're feeling is normal. Mine has run too hot to touch since new.

Thats correct. Engine heat radiates out of this cover, and not only that there is engine oil behind this cover as well.

I had to replace mine when I dropped it and it's pretty freaky to do since the magnet of the stator pulls the cover on with a resounding CLANK!

The heat is normal.

Very hot item. I put the Bike Johnny CF guard over it, and it is even hotter! Sorry about the damage. I dropped mine in my driveway, and the only person I could get angry with was myself
