I'm sure it's simple, but how do you do adjust the free play? The setup seems a little different than on my FJ09. Is there a thread? I couldn't find ine. Thanks in advance.

Look at the two cables coming from the throttle tube. The upper one (the one that "pulls") has a bulge a couple of inches down. You can slide the rubber over this bulge to expose an adjusting thread arrangement.

Free play on a "fly by wire" system?
There are normal push-pull cables from the throttle tube to the position sensor potentiometer that's mounted on the engine. So, yes, you have a bit of free play. With (at least on my '14) an adjuster just like the Gen 2 cable adjusters. I see no reason why the '16 should be any different.

Throttle control still feels like a traditional, cable-operated throttle and offers good feedback because, oddly enough, cables are still involved – up to the point where they terminate at the throttle-position sensor. This is where the analog cable is converted to a digital signal and sent to the ECU, which then controls the throttle bodies electrically. Yeah, well, they're nearly right, the position sensor is a simple potentiometer. It's an analogue signal into the ECU, it's inside the ECU that any digitisation takes place.

Ok, I'm being pedantic, but it could avoid confusion for someone fault-finding.

Actually it is a pull-pull cable system, neither of them "push".

Quite right, I was simply using a bit of short-hand to describe that the lower one forces the throttle (sensor) shut as you push the throttle tube to the closed position.
