Hey folks, just need to vent here after disappointing confrontation w/ 3 Harley's earlier today. My buddy and I are riding in the beautiful Black Hills today, he on his Ducatti 996 and me on my FJR, and came upon some slow-moving staus symbol riding Harleys. No big deal...Sunday drives are fine on a Harley, however they didn't seem to understand the concept of others riding differently than them. I passed the first one and had to wait to pass the next 2. Now. I had no intentions of "breaking" up their riding group but due to oncoming traffic it took me longer than anticipated to pass the rest of them. So jackass #3 pulls up right beside me and starts yelling at me. I just looked at him, thought about the finger, thought about an F*** you, but restrained myself because of his obvious lack of judgment in motorcycle selection. Anyway, my buddy and I end up passing them and we decide to stop @ a gas station at the end of this awesome road near Sturgis (some of u may be familiar w/ Vanocker Canyon). A few minutes later these mental midgets pull up to get some gas. I was ready for some comments but nothing was said and I am thankful for this because between my buddy and I we would've let him have it (verbally of course!) Anyway, my whole gripe is that these guys wouldn't let us by so we could ride our bikes the way they are designed. A few minutes earlier we came upon Harley and he graciously moved over and let us by (not that we needed help to pass one bike, but the gesture was appreciated), obviously he is a motorcyclist who understands the courtesies of riding. Sorry, and not to offend any Harley riders out there, but I get so tired of these folks who buy a Harley to look at it and have others look at them and truly do not care about motorcycling. I am done now. Thank u and good night.

not sure that your specific HD riders are any different than most everyone else. My guess is that this is they way they drive a car, too. Left lane is for me - and anyone who wants to go around me is not allowed. It is a sad state of affairs that americans are some of the absolute WORST drivers on the planet. there is little common courtesy, little professionalism and less awareness of their surroundings than anywhere. I've driven in countries where there was less concern for various road rules... but at least the folks knew enough to look out their windows and use a rear view mirror for something other than make-up.

One of my toughest tasks has been teaching my daughters to drive in a courteous and defensive manner. It's tough.

It's not just Americans who are guilty of such inconsiderate driving habits, Canadians can be just as bad. Driving home today, I was stuck behind several cars who just wouldn't move over and let faster traffic pass until I started closing up on them (which I know I shouldn't do), and then they hammer the brakes to move over behind a car they're travelling beside at the same speed. Now why can't these left-lane hogs pass and move right as soon as it's safe to do so? Oh, for the discipline of German drivers on the autobahn whose mantra is 'keep right except to pass', and 'if a car behind flashes its lights get the hell over, even if it is a couple of Kms back' (because it could only be seconds before it's up your tailpipe).

Of course, Highways doesn't help either, they post signs that label the right lane as a travel lane and the left lane as a passing/travel lane, with a line underneath asking drivers to be courteous and move over to let faster traffic pass. It't be nice if 'keep right except to pass' was the law, like it is in some places, although I doubt the cops would enforce it. Anyone know how to install a battering ram to the front? :gun:

For the record....they are called "Left Lane Police"....they pay their money, taxes, what have you....if they pass you, your driving, riding to slow.....but if you try to pass them....your a dangerous idiot....so they are just protecting you from yourself....for they are the "Left Lane Police"....a unfair, unfortunate, ugly fact of life..... :fuk: ....to all of them....

Make doesn't matter. Inconsiderate jagoffs drive/ride all kinds of stuff. Whenever someone comes up on me, I move over (doesn't happen much, as I'm probably already out of the #1 lane unless I'm going around slower traffic).

It's just nice to know you can efficiently pass just about anything out there.

This reminds me of another thread I need to visit- License frames.

+1 Toe,

Idiots abound on our highways and secondary roads... common courtesy and common sense are absent more often than not these days, and it doesn't seem to matter if you're on 2 wheels, 4 wheels, in a bus, on a sportbike, on a cruiser, on a moped, old, young, black, white, yellow, green or whatever. The easy way to tell this is true, is how you actually NOTICE it when someone is courteous and let's you pass, or waits to pass when it's safe, etc...

Seems like there's lots more bikes on the road these days, and lots of riders have no idea about ettiquette or common sense, let alone any riding skills.

Yes, HD riders aren't necessarily the worst. Lots of idiots out there. I've been behind Gold Wings a couple times that not only would not wave me through or yield the road. One actually blocked. 2 up. Going under the speed limit. It was all I could do to keep the rage under control.

If I flash my lights at you from behind as I approach, and you either don't acknowledge or aren't watching, I guess I could use my Magnum Blasters as the next step. Actually, I honked at my HD buddy yesterday AND HE COULDN'T HEAR THEM!!! So that might not work, or it might be "too much".

I figure if the schmuck hogging the lane, regardless of what either of us is riding or driving, isn't going to yield courteously, then all bets are off, and I'll smoke them at my convenience when it's safe. There are so many inconsiderate drivers, whether they don't pay attention or they just hog the road on purpose, you're never going to get rid of them.

You know, you do what you can. Try and get their attention, flash em, motion to them that you want the lane, try to make eye contact in their rearviews to make sure they see you and are actually looking. But comes the point you either have to lay way back, or just pass these idiots. There's no hope for most of those kind of people. They probably don't even realize the threat they might be bringing to themselves, let alone even consider the simple courtesy of yeilding to faster traffic. In their mind we are the bad guys, and their attitudes will probably never change.

Try to be as courteous as you can, even when riding at a spirited pace, so that you are setting a good example. Just remember, any idiot can get a drivers license in this country. And it shows on the road. If you spend enough time out on the road (riding or driving), you are going to come across poor or bad drivers on a regular basis. Be careful out there.

As I was headed back from my ride with Scab, I was running down the highway around 85-90. I saw a bike in the distance and thought I would catch and cruise with him as we approached town. That way niether of us would be solo. As I approached, I guess he got the same idea and moved his HD in front of me and opened up the throttle to pass the car ahead of him and match my speed. For a brief second I thought this will work. Then those pipes kicked in and I thought "there aint no way I riding behind this for another 40 min". We cleared the slower traffic and I waved bye to him. He could ride behind my lack of noise if he wanted to, but I was not ganna folow him.

Or you could take this:

As I approached, I guess he got the same idea and moved his HD in front of me and opened up the throttle to pass the car ahead of him and match my speed.

To:

That HD ass-hat saw me comming up quickly and cut me off.

I will try to think positive :)

I like breeding. But, if someone wants to die faster then me....by all means pass me.

Hey, I went to school in T.H. I'm coming back that way tomorrow (bikeless because I'm flying). How's the smell lately?! Some things I dont' miss about that town, but it sure was cheap to live in.

While Americans tend to be inconsiderate drivers in general, we are far from the worst.

We are just not quite ready for the autobahn.

Great job on teaching courtesy.

But George Carlin said it best: "Anyone who drives slower than me is an asshoe, and anyone going faster is a maniac." [or soemthing to that effect. :clapping:

As you know, i spend MOST of my life on the road driving a big rig. I have seen it ALL!!

Here are some of my favorites:

1. left lane hogs

2. Rolling road blocks (ex. 2 swift trucks "trying" to pass each other when one runs 64mph and the other runs 64.25 mph :angry2:

3. The left lane exit... Driving in the left lane and suddenly swerves to hit their exit! :angry2:

4. The whales... Motorhomes that are driven by 70+ year olds and cant see where they are going and dont bother to use their mirrors.

*****

Today was extra special to me... I had the pleasure of leaving my house to go to Zeeland,Mi. I have to say that Illinois drivers are some of the most inconsiderate drivers out there! They will run "nascar" all the way up I-57 and not let anyone, especially me since i am in a big truck, Pass. This was the longest 640 miles i have had in a long time! :angry2:

OK, I am done now and going back to my happy place :)

Mike, you got a point there...well, actually two points but, anyways....

They need to arm and certify all the bigrig drivers to put cagers in thier respective places. All they have to do after running a car off the road is make a call that a certain area of a highway has been "cleaned" up for smooth travel. Tow truck comes out..along with an ambulance if needed and life goes on.

I just want to point out that while most semi drivers are true professionals not all are!

Long haul drivers tend to be a cut above but I see a lot of drivers that should not be driving anything that big!(mostly the ones running back and forth to the port but some with out of state tags)
