As I was reconnecting my battery tender jr. to the bike yesterday after a

sunny, albeit breezy ride from Abq down to Salinas Nat'l Monument it occured

to me that the wires that are attached to the battery could provide a feed

to electronics in my tank bag when I'm touring (and maybe even some heated

vest for when it's cold).

Assuming I have appropriate fuses between the battery and the farkles, is

there any reason why I couldn't use that source of power? I'd use it for

the XM Skyfi radio, the radar detector, and maybe a heated vest. Any

thoughts?

Warmest regards,

Doc Reid

Doc, let me know if you need the part shown in the answer that Southern Cruiser has suggested. I am ready to order from Powerlet and would have it soon.
Do you carry, or will you be carrying the SAE to Cigar connector? The one I'm thinking about is: SAE/Cigar & SAE Y Outlet - PAC-026

I'll order them with tomorrows order. It takes less than a week to get them in.

Sport bike effects, Will you match the 10% discount I can get on powerlet products (through the other FJR forum)? If not, then I'll get the unit directly from Powerlet. Thanks.

I connect to the bike using a Jastek Powerlet in pannel D.

(described in detail at: https://www.bikes-n-spikes.org/mods/jp/jp.html)

I enter the bag using one of Jastek's bulkhead fittings.

I then use various Y adpaters to split off into multiple sockets (either Jastek/BMW style, cigar lighter, or SAE) within the tank bag. I am able to power my:

V1, Phone, MixIt, MP3 player (or Sirius receiver), AA NiMH battery charger (GPS, Camera, and map light all use AA batteries), and anything else I'd need to add. It's a very flexible design.

I keep all the cord clutter under control by stuffing all the sockets and misc wires into a Quarter Cube by Eagle Creek that then rests in the bottom of the tank bag with just the (labeled) connectors feeding out to each device.

Mark, Thanks for the tip on the small bag for all the wires. I'm going to run the battery tender jr wire from the battery directly into my tank bac through a zipper at the bottom front for the waterproof cover for the bag. This has worked well for putting headphone wires through it from my xmradio and has stayed dry even in the rain. I don't think I need a bag connector.

Does anyone make a pass-through wire adapter for a tankbag? I have my autocom in my tankbag powered by a nine volt. I have the wires for my xm, radar and helmet coming through the top of the tankbag. I'm seeing alot of backpacks which have a rubber diamond shape kizmo which you use for ipod/walkman headphones but haven't seen anything for a tankbag.

Sportsbike effects, anyone???

Thanks for any help...

It looks like the group buy for the Passport is going to come with a free hard wire so I may not need this cigar plug.

Thanks for the help guys. The thing I'm looking for is called a headphone portal, they have them on backpacks to string your headphones from an ipod, walkman through. I'm trying to find a pixs. I saw them on backpacks in Wallyworld.

I just wanted a neater way of routing my cables (radar, XM, helmet speakers, future GPS) instead of all the cables coming out of the top of my tankbag. I don't need power to my tankbag (right now).

Rider, I don't know if this will help much but I bought a Nelsen-Rigg tank bag recently and it had the "portal" you describe built into it already. They make a bunch of different sizes at reasonable price and good quality to boot. If your not married to your present bag you might want to take a look at them.....might be easier and less painful than combing the internet for the "portal" alone.
