I have decided I am going to buy a Givi V46 with the matching lid for the 06 in Cobalt blue.

Givi tells me I need the SR357 rack to mount it, but I can not find any photos of the rack to see what it actually looks like. Anyone got any photos of the Givi rack?

I am wondering if there might be a better, and more asthetically pleasing, way to mount the Givi to the bike other than using the Givi rack. Has anyone tried mounting a Givi adapter plate to the bike via another type rack? I wonder if the Yamaha rack looks any better and if you could mount a Givi adapter plate to it.

Any photos out there of the Yamaha rack anywhere? It sure would be nice to see what I am buying before I spend the money.

Thanks, that shows me what the Yamaha mount looks like. Now I just need to see what the new Givi SR357 looks like.

I wonder if a Givi adapter plate could be attached to this Yamaha rack....

Fred,

We are in the same boat. I stopped at the givi booth while i was down at the honda hoot this year to take a look at the adapter plate. Sales jockey running the show told me they were a few months off from having them ready. I asked him if he any pictures or any close to what the mounting piece looked like. He said that they had nothing even close. That makes me think that there coming up with some type of newly styled adapter. I tend not to like the adapters i've seen so far, so i'm hoping they come up with something more asthetic than what i've seen out. I dont think we'll be seeing anything for a while though.

I have designed a rack that accepts the Givi v46 Monokey Box, but you need to use the Givi E250 Universal Adapter plate. It will also hold the universal Plate for the MonoLock boxes. There are two different box postions settings available to adjust for rider comfort. (lean angle) The Givi mounting system put the rider in a very upright which a lot of people have complained about. My rack leans the passenger back in a more comfort position when using the Givi backrest pad with your box. See the FJR Vendors Section for pictures of my rack. It will be the rack thread started by me. I will be posting pictures next week of the additional backrest that will mount to this rack also. I have a few of these rack still available from my first production run. If you need more information please feel free to PM me.

Here's a few qik pics of my Givi rack.

Wicked, do you ride two up with the Givi box on? If so, how is the rider's position? Pretty upright? Any adjustability to the mounting position to give the passenger different lean angles?

Thanks for the photos. It confirms my fears, that the Givi SR357 rack is awfully unpleasant looking.

I am thinking that the OEM Yamaha rack with a Givi adapter plate mounted to it would look much better.

That's the boat I'm in... I have a universal-ish plate from my older wing rack. I may try to come up with a way to make that mount up to the Yami plate.

Yea, the more I look at it, the more I think what I really want, is the V46 color matched Givi, married to the Yamaha rack.

The other options would be to try to put a Givi adapter plate on the rack that OHFJR makes or the tubular one that Garauld makes.

OHFJR's Rack

This rack would look better with the Givi universal mounting plate if it were cut down in size so it more closely matched the footprint of the mounting plate

Garauld's Rack (he is three months back ordered)

This rack is also much larger than the Givi mounting plate, and look better for a top case if it were smaller, though I realize that was not it's intended purpose. It was made large to accomadate strapped on gear.

What we really need is for someone to make a nice looking rack, that is designed for the Givi universal mount that a V46 or E50 can be put on.

I looked at my Givi set up on the ZX11 again with the wingrack and universal plate. There are only (2) 10mm alen bolts holding that thing on and it's rock solid.

No reason there can't be a solid-enough, and good looking plate made. Something like the SW-Motech, only one that works when you get it.

I'll noodle on this when I get back. Shouldn't take much, few pieces of aluminum. :)

I took the liberty of altering the photo of Garauld's rack to what I would need to just put the Givi adapter plate on it. Notice the smaller footprint. This is about all the room you need for the universal Givi mounting plate.

I could do the same thing to the photo of the OHFJR rack to show you where it could be chopped in size.

For example, here is the OHFJR rack with Givi universal mount and box on it.

And here is my altered image with the unused space on the rack removed so it was just big enough for the universal mounting plate.

I believe that plastic part is part of the SR357 rack that Givi reccomends for the bike. That is the actual mounting plate that the Givi sits on.

It probably looks a whole lot better when the trunk is in place, but with the trunk removed, I really don't like the looks of the Givi mount very much. I would like to come up with a better looking mounting solution.

Givi sells a Universal mount that probably could be put on either the Yamaha rack or one of the aftermarket ones, like shown above. I think the Universal mount is not as much an eyesore when the trunk is removed.

Though there is one redeming feature of the above Givi mount, and that is the support bars that go forward will probably allow you to carry more load and will prevent the rack and bag from moving around over bumps and rougher roads. If you plan to put the trunk on the bike and never take it off, the Givi SR357 mount would probably be just fine.

Thanks Fred H. I don't intend to take it off, and the SHAD rack is still somewhere between the manufacturing line and the Canadian importer Motovan with the arrival date continually moving to the right, so I'm going with the Givi. The Canadian Givi importer didn't think Givi has even made them yet so I've ordered one from University Motors in Fargo, ND. With the shipping and taxes it'll probably will end up costing about the same as if I bought it in Canada anyway. Hopefully, between the US Postal Service and Canada Post I'll have it before I leave for WFO next week.
