It looks and sounds like the headlight lens is glass.

Is the headlight lens glass or plastic??

Plastic, at least on my '04.

And get some protectors. Cee Bailey makes some. Way cheaper than a cracked lens, which means the whole unit must be replaced, at least on the Gen I bikes. YMMV
