Ponyfool,

I use to work for Evergreen Helicopters just south of you in McMinnville. Use to travel out there around March or April and return home (East Coast) in October or November. I absolutely loved almost every last bit of scenery out there.

But the most awesome of all was flying over Mt St Helens after it blew. Pretty much every year after that the scenery altered ever so much but it was still a fantastic landscape to look at. I left the job in the mid 90's and haven't been back since.

Hope to return one day for another look around. Whats the latest word on it blowing again?

Yep, that's one big-ass hill. But my cousin in East Texas could take it on his 1973 TM-400 Suzuki.

Actually, I plan to visit this area on my round-about trip to NAFO this summer. Thanks, pony.

Grew up in Tacoma, been there many times.

Camped at Spirit Lake with my folks.

Still remember my dad diving in that deep cold ass water to retrieve my tennis shoe .

Hiked up to Lake St Helens, it's blown away now.

Went up there when they first opened the road. The trees were all laying down like match-sticks....most impressive thing I've ever seen! After the trees were harvested, it took the awe inspiring effect away.

when i was 16 (right after she blew) I flew a monney 201 into the red zone and around the edge of the crater. that was a gas! Untill the photographer in the back got sick.

The winter before she blew, we could watch her steam away. Where we snowmobiled, especially late in the season, on warm sunny days she was to the SW from us probably 300 miles as the crow flies. When stopped we would just marvel at the plume going straight up through the clouds.
