Hey all,

I'm adding a glove box to my '03.

I'm looking for pictures of how the lock mechanism in installed to the box.

Also, what box farkles would you consider necessary or desired, if you could "start from scratch" the way I am?

I'm doing a lot of custom wiring for the 'ol gal right now, so that wouldn't be an issue...

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I've got an '03 as well and, man, would I ever love a glove box! Just something to put my registration and a couple of pairs of glasses. I looked into getting all the parts for the'04 that give you the box, but the money factor just erased it. I have a Bagster and I just tie a Crown Royal bag to one of the lugs on it. I put my registration under the seat and hope I never run into anyone who needs to see it (cop). I mounted my Dual Heat Troller controls into the left A panel so the box is out of the question now. My Burgman, on the other hand, has so many glove boxes I can't keep track. One would be good on the '03, though.

I wired my 05 glovebox for my cell phone, walkie talkie and MP3 player to my Autocom system.

I wouldn't use the Yamaha lock system if you do install a glove box. It's not a secure lock, one good push with your thumb will open ANY FJR glove box. The mechanism uses a plastic pushrod to hold the latch in the locked position and it bends very easily. Possibly a basic cylinder lock would be easier and more secure.

Funny, I was JUST thinking of removing my glove box and replacing it with a panel for all the heated gear controls and comm system connections.

In my personal opinion, the Yami glovebox is too oddly shaped for anything more than registration papers and a garage remote. I keep those items, a sidestand plate and some shower caps for rain covers in it. It works well for that.

But... not a single cell phone I've ever owned fits in the glove box, IF you have the phone in any type of case.

Naw, man, the company he works for keeps him in the latest and greatest technology.

The odd shape & size limits what you can stuff in there. I added a fuse block to mine (here) to provide 12v to front end farkles, and usually carry my tire gauge, side stand plate, & registration/insurance info in there.
