I could just dig a flashlight out to see inside the box at night, and I can work the heat controls by feel, but a built-in light is just so much handier. The underside of the V-Strom hand guards made a perfect mounting point for a tiny red LED marker light from Princess Auto; there's enough space in there and no interference with clutch lever action. Discrete and blends right in with the dash illumination too:
