Goat Trail Madness :yahoo:

Seems like everyone has a niche ride they put together so I'm going to throw my hat in on a back roads version. I ride quite a few of these bumpy back roads in the course of my workday and am becoming quite fond of it in a masochistic kind of way. Probably start in Jackson (breakfast) and end in Murphys or San Andreas. Won't be much over 200 miles if that, but you should be tasting your own testicles by lunchtime anyway :dribble: . Sounds like fun huh! Bring your pillions if you wish but I may have them sign a "will not beat down ride coordinator" waiver. Now don’t think this is one of those scenic rides we do on the passes or Yosemite, think more along the lines of dilapidated roller coaster from hell!

UPDATE

For those interested this ride will be on Oct 22nd meet at Mels in Jackson at 8:00 am for breakfast, riding at 9:00. Maybe a late lunch again at Incahoots BBQ joint in Plymouth?

Looks like the weather should be perfect, 70's and clear skys. The leaves are turning so we should get some good color.

Wife decided she wants to go so the pace will be mellow.

So far it's;

GTM helpful hint…highly scientific… I heard Rossi uses this…

Take your age multiplied by Pi divided by the cubic centimeters displaced by your motorcycle multiplied by your rider weight divided by 4. Take that figure and turn your compression dampening out that many clicks.

Any chance you want to test out your route before the big ride? I'm off work until 8/31. October is a long way off.

PM me, maybe we can set something up midweek? Haven't even worked out the route yet but we could fumble around with some prospects.

Sounds a lot like a road that me and BBIII took on our last ride together. If you like goat and bumpy, then French Meadows Road from Wentworth Springs Road to Mosquito Ridge road is my recommendation :) How early are you riding? I just have to see my son off to Colorado that morning before I leave for a ride.

I could have sworn I saw 8/26 somewhere, but reading it again I can't find a date. Did I imagine things, or was the date edited out?

Dang...I turn 40 on Friday and my mind is already leaving the house.

U kill- sounds like a lot of fun but do I have to buy a new dual sport for this one ride?

French town road out of george town to forest hill good back road

what about earlysnow?????? :yahoo:

week end fun for a weekend rider :yahoo:

Uber, Tilly & BBIII rode the Pre-GTM route today. It was awesome, NOT recommended for pillions, they may just make you pull over and hitch-hike w/ a cager.

Hmmmmm -- this sounds interesting. Let me check with pillion -- we may do that with you. (Preliminary discussion has led to this being on the probable list if I can find her something warm enough (for a 5:30 to 6:00 am departure from Alta at 4,000 feet) to wear by then.)

(still laughing at odot's contribution, BTW)

Brad, you may have to slow the pace a bit with the 2 ups coming along for this ride.

Pillions you have been warned - this is a bumpy-twisty peg scraping ride.

I can't go - work takes me to Austin, Tx Sun-Wed <_<

Nice roads here and I may come over the hill for this. Likely will put a saturday route together that finishes up in Jackson and then do this Sunday -then head back over the hill.

Honestly, these roads are meant for my Strom, so i may take it instead of the FJR. (is that allowed?) Of course if I take the fjr I won't have to wait as long for other riders. LOL, Not dissin' our FJRs, but I'll be a lot quicker on the strom on these particular roads. These are some fun spirited roads ...and they should have their spots of debris from the fall wind as well as wet spots and Halloween ghosts out a bit early. and, if we get any hard rain perhaps some chunks of pavement missing. My kind of stuff!

Reno John: You may want to re think about bringing that storm A friend of mine has one hit a pot hole in the road just like we are going to go over. The next thing he saw was the bike and him sliding down road side by side. only very minor damage and a busted ego..

LOL, thanks. I hope you take my post for the poop-stiring fun that it was intended. New on the forum here so thought I'd come into this thread with an unkempt free-fall.

However, these roads are very much the roads you dream of for DL-1000 riding -especially if you've gone through the suspension. If the pot hole threw the strom askew as you say, I'd hate to imagine hitting the same thing on the FJR!! Both are great, fun bikes yet different. 19" front wheel, and suspension capable of bumps and debris make the strom a great bike on these type roads.

I hope to make this trip and not sure which I'll bring. anyway, I'll surely bring some fun and competency and look forward to meeting you guys.

Reno john it was only some humor. It did happen and it was not a big chuck hole it was around Middletown over by Napa on the back roads. I think the v-storm is a very good bike I would like a 650.

If the roads are that bad and going to vibrate my fjr apart I just might bing my truck with the bike tied down in side and if it snows I will be able to get home and offer towing service. to whom ever wants to get out of the snow. What a way to make money should be there on the 22 nd. weekend rider

Good on all. Yep, tie down the bike in the back of the truck, get on the bike and we'll all take turns driving your truck around as you pose for pictures on the bike.
Good fun ...trying to clear up my calendar to make this one!
