Folks, I'm heading to SD for a long weekend 12/11 to 12/15. Any ideas on what would be fun, entertaining to do? Its a non FJR trip and the wife and I are staying in La Jolla. I've heard Gaslamp District is great. Also heard its awesome to tour the USS Midway. How about places to eat either in La Jolla (or around there) or in downtown? Any beaches one can recommend?

Grazi Mates!!

:)

Some other suggestions.

Sea World

SD Zoo (one of the worlds best). They have Pandas

SD Wild Animal Park (an extention of the zoo)

Hotel Coronado (great place to have lunch on the deck overlooking the Pacific)

Sightseeing cruise of the harbour.

Start here at this link:

Clicky

Harbor Cruise, GasLamp District for Drinks and Dinner, USS Midway, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Pacific, Mission, Ocean Beaches, Point Loma Light House - Borrego Desert Trip.

This would be enough for 7 days.

https://www.midway.org/ Definitely recommend the Midway and there are dozens of restaurants that are fantastic to eat at in the Gaslamp District. For pure fun and enjoyment, watching our Los Robustos M/C El Presidente johnny80s eat lunch or dinner is truly the Eighth Wonder of the World; you'll view in awe and wonder wondering where all of that food could possibly go to!

Silver Strand Beach, Ocean Park and Mission Bay are beautiful spots for picnics and beachcombing. +10 on the Del Coronado!

Food

La Jolla - Don Carlos Taco Shop if Ryan is there tell him you are a friend of John's from Fallbrook. He is the owner and will take care of you.

Little Italy (downtown) - Bon Appetito

Sports Arena Area (by seaworld) - Phil's BBQ

Carlsbad - Fidel's Mexican food

Little Italy (downtown)- Landini's Pizza - Slices or whole pies

There are so many places to eat.

The Midway is a must and will take at least 4 hours. It is fantastic. Do the flight simulator too. It was a blast.

Balboa Park and Coronado are also touristy must sees. One thing that a lot of people miss is Pt Loma. Go all the way down the peninsula and there is a state park a little past the most beautiful military cemetery you will ever see. The park at the end of the peninsula has a lighthouse and a tourist center and beautiful views of the bay and Coronado along with the submarine pens on Pt Loma.

Balboa Park has lots to do including the Air and Space Museum and a very cool model train museum. There are art museums too.

I would skip Tijuana especially with all the shootings and stuff going on down there. If you want a Mexican blanket you can get them at Wal Mart and if you really need a pack of horse **** cigarettes let me know.

If you are going to La Jolla make sure to drive up Mt. Soledad and out to La Jolla Farms to see some of the coolest houses. Also hit the Birch aquarium in La Jolla.

I am not much of a SeaWorld or Legoland fan but if you have kids they will like it. The zoo is cool and is part or Balboa Park. If you are really into animals check out the Wild Animal park up in Escondido.

Manwhoride (ManWhore) will also have ideas on things to do and food to eat. Cometman already put in his two cents so you should be good to go.

I just got back from golfing in SD with Roy...... so there's another idea you could visit all the strip clubs. ( but you have to call us)

Richard is "golfing" code for going to the strip clubs?

Most of the clubs are located in the Sports Arena Area so you could get some BBQ at Phil's then go over to the clubs afterward.

I really love the Air & Space Museum up at Balboa Park. It's got a really unique sort of "attic" feel to it.

And the park itself is nice. I got married there! The other suggestions here, including the strip clubs - great.

Enjoy!

Definitely go to the Hotel Del Coronado. They will have all their Christmas decorations up. It will be really nice. Gaslamp is kind a trendy place if that's what you like. If you can take a drive up to Julian that would be really good. It's a great little town. Stop in the pie shop and get their famous apple pie and cinnamon ice cream!!
