I had the day off Friday and was itching to ride. My back has been hurting pretty badly lately so I decided to treat myself to a massage. So living in San Diego, I thought that it only made sense to book the appt. in Palm desert. Makes sense to me... 4 hours of riding for a 1 hour massage.
The ride was great. I avoided the slab the whole way taking the 67-78-79-371-74. Great roads and light traffic. Temps ranged from 40-92 and there was still some scenic snow in the mountains above me at times. I swear even the rocks looked like they were blooming. I almost always listen to music when I ride but today, it was earplugs both ways and just mellow relaxation. Left at 9:00 and I arrived at the JW Mariott resort and Spa (one of my favorite places and even proposed there on my first visit) at 11:00. Went to the pool for a dip ... had lunch... a great, great massage and was back on the road at 2:00 and home in time to relieve the nanny at 4:00 (wifey had to work late). The LEO gods were smiling on me as three times after I crossed double yellow to pass slow moving traffic a black and white coming from the opposite direction appeared within moments after.
I passed many bikes but only one feejer. BTW if you were on the blue fjr towards the bottom of the 74 in the afternoon, you don't need to mention to anyone that I had my jacket off for a bit...shhhh!
After I got home I took my munchkins (girls, ages 2 & 3) for a nice walk in the neighborhood. Among other things, we looked for turtles in the pond and then the girls played in the giant "sand box" (fairway bunker on Mt Woodson golf course hole #5 next to the pond with aforementioned turtles). As I sat down on the grass, watching the girls laughing and playing with the late afternoon sun still shining on my face and my mind revisiting all the great sweepers, sights, sounds and smells of the day... I was most appreciative for a great, Good Friday!
