Today, with everyone at WFO and no one to play motorcycles with, I went for a toodle around town on my Harley Sportster: Vroooooom!

I stopped by my local Yamaha-Kawasaki dealer and low and behold, there on the show room floor was a Connie-14.

"Can I sit on the motorcycles?"

"Yes sir."

I got up on that baby, and right away my [ladies, plug your ears] crotch was pressing right up against the tank. I tried to scoosh back like I can do on my FJR, but the stock seat curves up right away, so I can't scoot back at all.

All in all, a more cramped, lean-forward riding position for me at 6'-3" (I am quite comfortable on the FJR).

Now I admit that as a horsepower junkie I was smitten by the Connie-14, so this is good news because as I told Fang when I got home, "This means I won't be needing a new motorcycle anytime soon....."

Phew!

Whew! I thought it was going to be just me around here after reading all the early reports on the new connie, I wonder if you can ride it on water ...

On the one hand, I am happy to see some expansion in the sport tourer dept., being a convert from cruisers (who will never go back) I think this classification of bike has a lot to offer the rider;

BUT I'll still be here, too.

It will take more than a some sales & initial bike report hype, a couple extra HP and an "Intelligent ProximityActivation Start System" (a feature I don't need and IMHO adds no value to a motorcyle) to get me off the my FJR.

The first time I demo rode an FJR, my impression was "its like they made this for me"; this hasn't changed, just because someone else has brought out something new that hasn't seen much actual use, yet. Like every other motorcycle, it will be found to have its strong, and weak points as time goes on.

The FJR's size, weight, ergonomics, configuration, handling, useful power, appeanace all precisely suit my requirements more than anything else I have checked out, up to and including today.

I feel the same way. Although I'm not a real experienced rider and haven't ridden many different kinds of bikes, the FJR has everything I knew I wanted in a motorcycle after spending three years on a Sportster: handling, acceleration, good looks, comfort, fun in the twisties, good commuter, a gas gauge, storage space, economy, etc., etc....

Well lucky you. I went to the KTM shop and test rode a 950SM and I'm in agony :glare:
