Such a range of places and prices. Tell me a little more to guide you. DO you want to spent 500 on dinner? or 20 bucks you can get either by walking 5 min either way from pretty much any hotel on the Mile.

My advice is to check into the hotel and ask the concierge to recommend some places. Tell them you want to stay away from the touristy places. Have them call you an UBER or cab to take you right there. Or have them make you reservations at the places that you prob couldnt get a reservation on your own. The hotel people always know the best places, they are in the industry.

And for goodness sake, do not eat a chain restaurant.

You do know there is a Bear/Packer game in town this weekend. And Temps are supposed to be Highs in the Teens. Prepare accordingly with early reservations and warm clothes if you have to be out long.

I will ask one of my fellow teachers for some of the best pizza places on the mile. He is from Chi-town.

Beggars pizza, Giordano's, Lou malnatis are the best pizza places in town. By a long shot.

Fogo de Chao if you want a glorious meat fest.

Yolk on Michigan Ave for breakfast.

Rosebud has a great hamburger. Good suggestion.

Chicago cut for steak. But bring your wallet.

Wife says that if there is a Lou Malnaiti's close by, they have outstanding deep dish pizza. Be advised that some locations are carry out only.

Thanks for all the replies. We did go to Giordanos for deep dish. Pretty good.

We passed on the steak house for a local pub with a large beer selection. (O'Tooles)

Headed back this morning (we took the train). I see it's colder right now in St.Louis (5F) than it is here in Chicago (8F)

Thanks again!

My sister-in-law just retired as a Lieutenant after 30 years working for the Cook County Sheriff's Department. She spent most of her time working in the jail system. Food must be good in there... pepole are killing to get in.

She lives in LaGrange. There are several good restaurants on the main street of the town.

I'd heard about deep dish Chicago pizza my whole life. When work took me there, we had to go to a highly recommended pizza place. It was a on of high quality cheese, no sauce, and a few pieces of sausage. Never again. I'd go steak if I went back again.

Ours definitely had sauce...and it was good....but I didn't find it in anyway as good as a thin crust pizza. Was filling, but doubt I'd order one again. I did like how they managed the restaurant (Girodannos) As there was a 30 minute wait, you order your pizza first, then they text you when your table is ready. After you sit down you don't have to wait long for your food.

Thin crust is the way to go...not a fan of the deep dish either.
