Google Streetview avatar on the ET Hwy

I was doing some pre-ride planning, and wanted to check out a section of the ET Hwy (NV-375, between Alamo and Tonopah) using Google Streetview.

In this area, the Streetview avatar changes from the little orange man into an alien spaceship...

Its OK as an "i've done it" but the ride itself is pretty monotonous. A lot of miles across the desert and the only thing you really see are some cheesy Alien shops and a run down motel with a flying saucer on a stand in the sad looking parking lot. The only thing that you actually can visually identify as being related to Area 51 is the long straight road that connects to 375 about 15 miles west of Crystal Springs Nevada, and even that disappears into the hills around Groom Lake so its not really much to talk about.

Pretty much describes every route I have taken across Nevada.

Best thing about Nevada is it ain't Kansas. At least there's a little scenery.

Quick U-turn, five miles back to town. It's freaking empty out there!

Don't anyone fall for the Warm Springs trick. At the intersection of 6 and 375 there's the little village of Warm Springs - shows up as a circle on the AAA map, but in reality all that there is a derelict, boarded up bar, and a building across the highway with a caved in roof - that's it! You made the right call Mike - there's a lot of empty miles between gas stations out there.... You must have come down 376 from Austin? those are some pretty desolate miles too

I agree with all of the above... like the Dragon - it's a "been there, done that" type of road. I want to do it once, just once.

Great for "scientific testing" of your gear.

We "went for it" then had to ask nicely in Rachel (the crappy store with a brothel in back) if they could wake up the guy with the keys to the gas pump. We stumbled in on fumes !!

I used to live in central Florida. Cheesy appeals to me.

As a reformed car driver turned bike rider turned trucker turned back to biker ....all those roads in NV. are long and boring. US 50 is called "the loneliest hwy" and for good reason.

They have a supercar timed race on hwy 318 every year ...about 100 miles of road as fast as you can cover it...would be fun on the fjr....I had an oversize truck load that was routed on that hwy when that race was going on...I had to wait for 8 hours for them to finish racing...but I got to see some fantastic machines

Watch out for the seductive high speeds at night in Nevada. I saw the biggest elk i"ve ever seen in my life come out of nowhere on Hwy 50. It's an amazing site at 100 mph in the dark. They might have been aliens, but I'm pretty sure they were elk.
