Gosh...why are some cagers complete asses?

So, Ive been riding a long time. Ive experienced tailgaters and such, but yesterday this guy was a complete ass.

This particular exit off the freeway sweeps to the left and stops almost under the freeway, where a lights control the intersection. It feeds on to a 6 lane main road (3 lanes each way) so its a major road. I always hate this exit because its almost a blind corner at the stop line. I usually pull to the far right, almost on the shoulder. Yesterday, however, there were about 6 cars waiting for the light. If I had pulled into the 7th place, it would've been right at the bend of the curve, thus completely blind. So I pulled up to the front next to the car at the 1st spot on the line. Normally people dont care, but this guy rolls down his window and starts yelling at me "WTF do you think youre doing?" I yell back I dont want to wait in a blind corner and get rear ended! He yells "You f***ing bikers think you own the road! But you know what? You dont!" and proceeds to crank his wheel to the extreme right and creep up right in front of me, almost IN the intersection to cut me off! WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT! I back peddle a bit to get out of his way, and he yells "You better move back ass****!". Once the light turned green he peeled out and away.

Try to post his license plate next time. We have LEO's as members here. That seen\ms to be near felony road rage to me. The other option is to lrt him touch you, fall over and get a really aggressive lawyer. sorry about your experience.

It is better to be alive and get a traffic ticket than to obey the letter of the law when it puts you in a dangerous situation (like being OREO'd by some cager coming hard off the expressway and not familiar with this exit)

I Agree! I would have done the same thing! That Asshole is obviously Not a Rider. He can go to Hell as far as I'm concerned. The second he started to cut him off I would have taken off and if caught, I'd explain to the LEO that I was fleeing from a lunatic with severe road rage.

I have to agree.

I recently went on a Bikesafe course, this is run by police riders to try to reduce the number of accidents amongst motorcyclists.

They encourage lane splitting, probably because as police riders they sometimes have to get to the scene of an "incident" quickly. They also make the point that it reduces congestion for everyone.

Getting to the point now

They advise, when going past a queue of traffic waiting at lights, not to go right to the front, but to hang back two or three cars from the front. This reduces considerably the aggro felt by (in particular) the driver at the front, and all drivers see this as less of you pushing your way to the front, more simply taking a reasonable advantage.

Annoyance (however miss-guided) is reduced.

Having said that, there is absolutely no excuse for road rage.

Amen Brother!! I've done stuff like that many times. Some were seen by the LEO some not. The times that I got stopped for it, explaining exactly what I did and why got me out of all of them. Having a little gray in my beard helped considerably. They are not looking at you as a 17 year old with his hair on fire. I tell the officer to give me the ticket, at least I'm alive to sign for it. LEO's in cages have many Moto Cop friends and they hear all sorts of horror stories first hand from their Moto Cop colleagues.

Having said that, I tend to agree with MC on the issue of not going all the way to the front to reduce aggravation in theory. In practice, it's a different matter. if I'm that close to the front at that point, why not go all the way! Include Road Rage to the mix and that's a no brainier for me!

mcatrophy, lane sharing is illegal in all US states except California. What networkguy did was technically illegal, but it's his call as to whether the legal situation was actully safer. The other guy's actions were definitely uncalled for, but it's quite common for drivers to act like you've cut their balls off and personally insulted their mommas by you actions in traffic.

I've been pulled over twice in the last year, both times it was speeding up approaching an intersection to use the car in the other lane as a blocker. I'm not talking 1st gear pin it maneuvers. The first time it was local motor officer who pulled me over. I explained why I did what I did. He gave me the thumbs up and sent me on my way.

The second time, I got a lecture but no ticket.

Just lack week their was a break in the line of traffic as I approached. Spidey senses go off big time. I slow down approaching the gap. Buddy behind me *LAYS* on his horn. Sure enough, Soccer mom comes through the gap to make a left turn in front of me, even though the horn behind me is at 10. Had I continued at traffic speed, I most likely would've T-Bones the van, or, stopped in time only to be oreo'd by asshat behind me.

I live to ride another day.

Buddy behind me is raging pissed off at me at the next set of lights because I held him up for his run to the beer store by less than half a second. I didn't say shit. I just stared at him through my tinted visor.

I'm thinking a small inconspicuous laser, mounted to the side of a helmet with a glove friendly switch would do the trick. When an asshat like that needs a stare down, just light up his chest! (A James Bond rotating style license plate might come in handy too!)

Living in CA we don't get much reaction from the cagers to our filtering or lane-sharing, but in other states, it causes a high rate of road rage and dangerous behavior as drivers get territorial about "their" space. I'd like to see filtering and lane sharing be permissible everywhere as a safety measure, but I doubt we will ever see it happen. Outside of the motorcycle community, it is not understood at all.

Always stop on the outside of my lane, which ever side looks as though it has an easier path to 'get out of the way'.

That's what I don't understand here. Just stop at the far right side of your lane, stay in first, keep your eyes peeled on the mirror. Someone comes around too fast, get out of the way then. I do that at every light...
