Thanks for all the suggestions about choosing the right helmet; its been very helpful. Although I spent more than I wanted (aprox. $200 more), the Multitec tec sits very comfy over my bowl of jelly.
The convenience of a modular is also extremely nice. So far, the helmet is not much quieter than my old KBC, but the noise does sound to be more controlled. Unlike other helmets, the multitec does not appear to have any pressure points that might cause irritation over time. It also feels a bit lighter than the KBC. Moreover the shell seems to cradle my noggin more completely rather than a bowl sitting atop my head.
So far I am pleased!
While I was spending money I chose to buy the Schampa Pharoah Balaclava. A very nice addition for form and function.
